PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Firus Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frankie Russo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Williams comes to the cage accompanied by Fuel-Hemorrhage. Frankie Russo told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Firus Williams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Frankie Russo!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Russo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Russo shoots in but Williams avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Russo works the jab nicely.
Williams swinging wildly here.
Russo rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Williams moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Williams shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Williams showed some decent athleticism there.
Well, if Williams is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Firus Williams.

Williams is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Russo wants to control from the top but Williams keeps moving.
Russo might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Williams kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Williams avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Russo throws a combination. Williams tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Williams fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Frankie Russo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Williams closes the distance and clinches up with Russo, looking for a takedown. Williams pushes Russo against the cage but Russo circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Russo bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Williams drops his hands momentarily and Russo takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Russo misses with a series of wild punches.
Nice takedown defense from Russo. No joy for Williams on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Firus Williams. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Russo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Williams throws a sloppy head kick and Russo moves out of range easily.

Russo throws a lazy right hand but Williams sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Russo shoots in looking for a takedown but Williams manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Russo's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Russo wants to control from the top but Williams keeps moving.
Russo trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Williams manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Russo manages to get himself to full guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Russo is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Firus Williams wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Russo lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Williams circles away quickly and effectively.

That's nine minutes gone in the round.

Oooh a lovely combination from Russo sends Williams down but not out. Russo dives into side control looking to finish.


Williams is rocked!
Russo in side control here. He's dropped a big elbow there and Williams looks hurt! Oh, he is hurt! Russo turns on the heat and pounds him out for a TKO victory! Good killer instinct there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 9:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Frankie Russo!
