PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Zak Drezner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Digger Mcgee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Drezner comes to the cage accompanied by Cypress Hill - Checkmate. Mcgee has chosen Carmina Burana as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Zak Drezner!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Digger Mcgee!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Gwen Towbar and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Drezner throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Drezner takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Drezner lands with a kick to the ribs.
Mcgee looks to score with a jab to the body but Drezner is just out of range.
Drezner moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Mcgee uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Drezner.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Drezner - that will leave a mark!
Drezner throws a predictable looking body shot

and Mcgee counters with a single leg into guard. Drezner didn't expect that.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Drezner utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Drezner wants to sweep but no luck.
Drezner is working hard here to advance position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Drezner keeping full guard, as Mcgee tries to pass.
Mcgee preventing the sweep.
Mcgee stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Drezner swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Drezner pulls Mcgee in close to prevent any damage.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Drezner preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Drezner working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Mcgee.
Mcgee forces his way into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Mcgee wants to take a breather but Drezner is having none of it.
Drezner trying to hold on to Mcgee's head to control him but Mcgee postures up.
Mcgee throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Mcgee is trying to control. Drezner wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Mcgee is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Drezner makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Drezner.
Drezner manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Drezner controlling from mount.
Drezner trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Drezner controlling the position easily from mount.
Mcgee tries to reverse the position but Drezner maintains control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Drezner avoids the attempt from Mcgee to control.
Drezner tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Mcgee is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Drezner controlling the position easily from mount.
Mcgee can't escape the position.
Mcgee slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Drezner seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Zak Drezner has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Drezner throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Zak Drezner dominated that round.
That's time! Drezner's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Drezner loads up on a big right hand but Mcgee slips the punch.


It looks like Digger Mcgee has been cut.
That kick from Drezner tenderised Mcgee's leg. Mcgee is trying to keep his angry face on.
Zak Drezner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mcgee avoids the head kick by Drezner.
Drezner throws a looping overhand right but Mcgee ducks down to avoid it.
Mcgee moves out of range of the body kick from Drezner.
Mcgee swings away with a body shot that misses
and Drezner counters with a good low kick that Mcgee was not able to check.
Drezner misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Drezner throws a quick inside leg kick.
Mcgee shoots in looking for a takedown but Drezner manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Mcgee's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Drezner wants to slow Mcgee down by chopping away at his legs.
Drezner scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Mcgee doesn't seem bothered though.
Mcgee shoots for a double leg takedown but Drezner sprawls well. He's pushed Mcgee's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Mcgee is breathing heavily.
Mcgee misses with a takedown attempt
and Drezner counters with a nice leg kick.
Zak Drezner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Digger Mcgee.
Mcgee chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Drezner can pounce on him.
Good shot there by Drezner.
Mcgee moves forwards but Drezner connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Drezner throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Drezner lands a nice leg kick that just misses Mcgee's sensitive parts.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Drezner lands a hook that stumbles Mcgee back into the cage. Drezner follows up with a straight and another hook that land right on the button, dropping Mcgee to the canvas! Drezner pounces and lands several unanswered shots - Mcgee has had enough and taps out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:08 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Zak Drezner!
