PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bobby Crown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Clay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Crown comes to the cage accompanied by Eminence Front. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jake Clay!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Alyssa Summers and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Crown looks to land a combination but Clay avoids it well.

enabling Clay to counter with a crisp jab.

Clay drives through with a takedown into guard.
Clay throwing strikes from guard but Crown blocks nicely.
Crown knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Clay on the ground.
Clay trying to control the position from guard on top but Crown is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Clay might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Crown kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Crown looking for a sweep. Not yet Crown, not yet.
Crown lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Clay!
Poor strikes thrown by Crown there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Crown pushes Clay off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Bobby Crown seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Clay moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.


It looks like Jake Clay has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Clay takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Crown scores with a jab to the head.

Crown cracks Clay with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Clay looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Crown finish him?

Crown fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Clay manages to avoid it.

Clay takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Crown is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Crown throws an overhand right that lands on Clay's shoulder, as Clay tries to avoid the shot.

Clay shoots in and bounces Crown off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close second round but I would say that Bobby Crown will probably get the nod.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Crown is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Clay gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

The fight stays on the outside here - Clay looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Clay shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Crown as he jumps to the side.

Clay drops back looking for a leg! Crown is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Crown manages to kick Clay off! Clay jumps back into Crown's guard.
Crown wants to sweep here but Clay controlling him for the moment.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Clay throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Crown works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Jake Clay comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Clay has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
