PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alexei Surov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maksim Kvardickii (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Surov comes to the cage accompanied by Amfitamins. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alexei Surov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Maksim Kvardickii!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Sergei Dronov and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Surov misses with a body shot.

Surov moves into the clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Kvardickii's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Surov goes for a takedown attempt but Kvardickii pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Surov moves into the clinch.
Kvardickii blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Kvardickii has Surov pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Kvardickii pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Surov tumbling to the mat - Kvardickii dives into Surov's guard.
Surov is pulling down on Kvardickii's head. It's preventing any offense from Kvardickii, at least for the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Surov looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Surov wants to sweep but no luck.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Kvardickii keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Surov.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Kvardickii wants to clinch

and Surov counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Surov trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Surov thows a big elbow that misses.
Kvardickii keeping full guard, as Surov tries to pass.
Kvardickii looking to control.
Surov won't allow Kvardickii to sweep him here.
Surov sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Kvardickii's guard.

Surov missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Surov is keen to just control but Kvardickii is a slippery customer.
Kvardickii really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Surov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Surov is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kvardickii defends it well.
Surov passes the guard and advances to mount!
Surov throws some wild stikes that Kvardickii manages to avoid easily.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Surov working for a guillotine from mount but Kvardickii is in no mood to give up.

Kvardickii holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Surov tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Surov swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Kvardickii is now in Surov's guard. A big mistake from Surov there, giving up the dominant position!
Kvardickii must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Surov wants to sweep here but Kvardickii controlling him for the moment.
Surov seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alexei Surov dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


A looping hook to the body misses from Surov. Kvardickii does a little dance to reset his feet.
Kvardickii tries to clinch up

and Surov counters with a takedown into side control.
Surov throws an elbow but Kvardickii slips to the side and avoids it well.
Surov is looking to take a break and control but Kvardickii is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Surov swings around for an armbar but Kvardickii sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Surov's guard.

Surov looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Surov is pulling down on Kvardickii's head to control his posture.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Surov has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kvardickii can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Surov holds on and takes a little breather.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Surov is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Surov is looking to stall here but Kvardickii recovers full guard.

Surov drops back, looking for a kneebar! Kvardickii looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Kvardickii looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Kvardickii!

Surov is looking for a sweep.
You can see the frustration on Surov's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Surov is trying to improve his position.
Surov is working hard here to advance position.
Surov keeps Kvardickii under control for a moment.
Surov manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alexei Surov dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Surov closes the distance and pushes Kvardickii back into the cage.
Kvardickii misses with a knee to the head.

Kvardickii is fighting off a takedown attempt but Surov is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Kvardickii to the mat. Kvardickii regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Surov pushes down on Kvardickii's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Surov is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kvardickii is just riding it out for now. Surov eventually gives up the hold.
Surov thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Surov perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Surov connects with a nice short shot to Kvardickii's temple.

Surov is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Surov is controlling the pace.

Surov is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Kvardickii doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Surov.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Surov takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Surov works his way into side control.
Surov is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Kvardickii's shoulder. That is not cool.

Surov tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kvardickii is not content to let Surov control the position.

Surov wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kvardickii, who protects the arm well.

Surov tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Surov has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kvardickii prevents Surov from improving position.

Surov has hold of Kvardickii's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Kvardickii tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Surov cranks the arm and Kvardickii screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Kvardickii, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Alexei Surov!
