PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kalevi Kumijalka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kim Karlsen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kumijalka comes into the arena with compella & the twister - put ur weed up blaring out of the sound system. Karlsen comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Home by BZ's kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Kalevi Kumijalka!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 13 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kim Karlsen!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Aleksandr Martynov and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karlsen swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Kumijalka connects with a high kick.
Karlsen shoots and misses

and Kumijalka counters with a single leg into guard. Karlsen didn't expect that.

Karlsen escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kumijalka gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Karlsen tries to strike from the bottom.
Kumijalka wants to stand and escape but instead Karlsen has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Karlsen has gone for a leg lock! Kumijalka slips out almost immediately though and dives into Karlsen's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Karlsen has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kumijalka can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Karlsen is trying to control the position but Kumijalka postures up.

Karlsen is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Kumijalka is fighting to break Karlsen's control of his arms but Karlsen is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Karlsen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Kumijalka wants to stand but Karlsen is controlling his posture from full guard.

Karlsen is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Karlsen bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kumijalka's guard.
Kumijalka is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Karlsen is controlling him.

Karlsen is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Kumijalka sees it coming and defends easily.

Karlsen fails with the takedown
and Kumijalka counters with a nice low kick that buckles Karlsen's knee momentarily.

Karlsen shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kumijalka but Kumijalka pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Kumijalka throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Karlsen blocks it with crossed arms.
Karlsen changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Kumijalka fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Kalevi Kumijalka has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kim Karlsen.
Karlsen shoots in for a double leg but Kumijalka sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

and Kumijalka counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Karlsen is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Kumijalka tries to break free but Karlsen pushes him back against the cage.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Kumijalka enables Karlsen to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Kumijalka manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Karlsen misses with a takedown

and Kumijalka moves into the clinch.

Kumijalka is trying to maintain a safe position but Karlsen gets an underhook and turns Kumijalka into the cage.

Kumijalka is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Karlsen throws a strike but Kumijalka rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Karlsen is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Kumijalka is forced to tap! Great finish!
