PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Naomasa Yi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fook yu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Naomasa Yi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Fook yu!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Shigeki Sano and Yasuomi Hirokawa.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yi throws an uppercut from half a mile away. yu sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Yi drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Yi postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

yu escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Yi gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
yu keeping moving, preventing Yi from controlling successfully.

yu had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Yi defends it easily.
yu trying to keep a closed guard but Yi is proving a slippery customer.
yu utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Yi got a little sloppy there for a moment and yu has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Yi has managed to get both his arms back between yu's legs - danger averted.
Yi working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Yi throws a big right hand that misses.
Yi wants to pass the guard but yu is keeping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

yu working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Yi doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Yi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Yi throws a big right hand that misses.
Yi has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Yi wants to control from the top but yu keeps moving.
Yi seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Yi is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Yi trying to control but yu is working from the bottom.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

We're going to have a standup here because Naomasa Yi wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Yi looks to land a right hand but yu moved out of range.

Yi darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
yu tries to get to full guard but Yi has control of the leg.
yu is refusing to be controlled, as Yi sits in half guard.
yu on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
yu is trying to get back to full guard.
Yi is nestled in close to yu, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Yi seems to be working for a kimura but yu defends the submission attempt.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Yi frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Yi tries to control but yu wriggling away.
Yi lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
yu flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
yu sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
yu is refusing to be controlled, as Yi sits in half guard.

yu looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
yu looks gassed!
Yi looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Yi wants to work for an arm triangle but yu is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Yi is thwarting yu's attempts to control the position.
yu is trying to get back to full guard.

Yi not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Yi is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. yu doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Yi.

yu is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Yi pulls his head out easily.

yu gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Yi counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for yu!

Yi lands with some vicious ground and pound - can yu hang on?

yu is bucking up trying to escape but Yi cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Yi lands a big shot to the head and yu winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!
