Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shane Carwin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Stein (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Stein's choice of entrance music: Rolling Stones - Paint it Black. Shane Carwin is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Shane Carwin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Stein!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Eliza Hachem and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Stein closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Stein lands in his opponent's guard.
Stein pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Carwin is keeping the position for now.
Carwin is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Carwin prevents Stein from improving his position.

Stein looking for submissions off his back.
Stein is pressing down on Carwin's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Stein has his foot on Carwin's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Carwin works his way back into a safe position though.
Carwin tries to free his leg and advance position but Stein is retaining full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Stein escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Carwin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Stein tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Carwin slips nicely into half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Stein tries to get to full guard but Carwin has control of the leg.

Stein looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Stein is staying active underneath Carwin, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Stein gets back to full guard.
Stein looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Carwin stands and throws Stein's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Carwin tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Stein manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Stein is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Carwin pulls his head out easily.

Carwin wants to control but Stein is keeping him busy.
Stein is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Carwin is trying to control the action in half guard but Stein is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Stein makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Stein.
Stein is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Stein tries to pass to full mount but Carwin defends it.

Carwin is not content to let Stein control the position.
Stein content to control rather than advance.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Stein seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Stein dominated that round.
That's time! Carwin's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Carwin scores with a hook to the body. Stein takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Carwin misses with a series of wild punches.

Stein shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Carwin's guard.

Stein drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Carwin manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Stein has Carwin in his guard.

Stein is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Stein looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Carwin got a little sloppy there for a moment and Stein has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Carwin has managed to get both his arms back between Stein's legs - danger averted.
Carwin wants to control from the top but Stein keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Stein working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Carwin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Carwin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Stein is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Carwin wants to control from the top but Stein keeps moving.

Stein escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Carwin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Carwin wants to control but Stein is having none of it.

Stein cracks Carwin with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Stein is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Carwin can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Stein putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Stein content just to control the position here.
Carwin tries to reverse the position but Stein maintains control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Stein landing strikes, looking to finish!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Stein showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Stein looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Carwin!
Stein lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Carwin hang on?
Stein pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Stein landing strikes from the mount and Carwin is in trouble!

Carwin is rocked!


It looks like Shane Carwin has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Stein postures up and throws a big right hand. BOOM! Right on the button! Carwin is out cold - huge knockout for Stein!
