Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Slopey Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith has chosen Hank Williams Jr - A Country Boy Can Survive as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Black walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Smith checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Smith ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Black throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Smith takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

It looks like Mike Black has been cut.
Smith throws a right hand that misses
and Black counters with a solid body kick.
Black lands a slapping body shot.
Black lands a leg kick that knocks Smith off balance momentarily.
Smith looks gassed!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Black throws a low kick but Smith avoids it.
Black connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
A slapping body kick lands there for Black.
Black lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Smith fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Black avoids it really well and circles away.

Smith bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Black throws a front kick that sends Smith stumbling back into the cage.
Black tries to work over Smith's front leg with a kick but Smith checks it.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Black.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Smith takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Black throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Black throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Smith throws a hook but Black blocks it.
Black avoids a kick to the body.
Black dodges the punch combination from Smith.
Smith swings for the body but Black moves out of range.
Smith will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Black takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Black tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Black scores with a sloppy right hand. Smith should have avoided that one.
Black is looking to score with low kicks.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Smith checks a leg kick.
Black misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Smith.
Smith scores with a jab to the head.
Black throws a lazy uppercut

and Smith counters with a nice double leg into side control. Black won't be happy with that.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Black is looking to regain half guard here but Smith keeps moving and retains side control.
Smith throws a strike aimed at the side of Black's head but Black avoids it well.

and Black counters with a three punch combo that has Smith backing up. Smith nods at Black to acknowledge the strikes.
Black looks to land a left hand but Smith moved out of range nicely.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Black enables Smith to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Black manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Smith throws a big right hand that misses.
Smith trying to control the position from guard on top but Black is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Black knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Smith on the ground.
Smith sitting in guard, not really doing much.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Smith moves out of range as Black strikes.
Smith scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

Smith lands a jab.
Black throws a right and a left that both miss.
Black misses with a double jab
and Smith counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Black lands with a slapping head kick.
Smith throws a body punch but Black moves out of range.
Black thows a left - swing and a miss!
Some bone on bone action there as Smith checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Mike Black seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Black throws a leg kick
and Smith counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Smith looks to land a combination but Black avoids it well.
Smith lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Black takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Smith fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Black gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Smith to score an easy takedown into full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Smith throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Black stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

and Smith cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Smith lands a head shot.
Black lands a leg kick that knocks Smith off balance momentarily.
Smith jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Smith jabs at Black's body.
Good leg kick by Black there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Smith misses with a wild body shot.
Black swings widly with a right hand
and Smith counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Black thinking.
Smith wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Mike Black is winning the standup battle so far.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Black takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Smith shoots in looking for a takedown. Black tries to sprawl out of it but Smith keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Black manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Smith looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Black wants to improve his position but Smith is controlling well.
