The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
von Herrmann throws a solid leg kick but James takes the impact on his shin and smiles at von Herrmann.
A momentary lapse in concentration from James enables von Herrmann to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. James manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
James is looking to stand up but von Herrmann isn't so interested in that idea.
von Herrmann must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
von Herrmann scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
James has momentary wrist control but von Herrmann slips an elbow through the middle.
James wants to get back to his feet but von Herrmann is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
von Herrmann throws a big right hand that misses.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
James preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
von Herrmann postures up in James's guard and throws a big left but James blocks it.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
von Herrmann stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! James throws up his legs and catches von Herrmann in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! von Herrmann tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by James! That came out of nowhere!
