PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Stewie Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pertti Junttila (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Stewie Griffin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Pertti Junttila!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Ben Zyskovitsi.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Griffin tries to clinch up
and Junttila counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Griffin defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Junttila.
Griffin cracks the inside of Junttila's front leg.
Junttila changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Griffin tries to avoid it but Junttila manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Griffin to the ground. Griffin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Griffin looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Griffin feints and then cracks Junttila's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Junttila down.
Junttila lands with a hook. Griffin tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Griffin throws a right hand that Junttila ducks under and follows up with a left that Junttila also avoids with ease.
Griffin throws a leg kick which misses Junttila's front leg but catches the back leg as Junttila tries to avoid it.

Griffin has taken the fight to the clinch.
Junttila tries to circle away but Griffin has him pinned against the cage.

Junttila decides to pull guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Griffin would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Griffin gets to his feet. Junttila looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Griffin throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Griffin throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Junttila thows a body shot but no joy.
Griffin lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Junttila circles away quickly and effectively.

Junttila throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Griffin tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Junttila is in Griffin's guard.
Griffin wants to stand and escape but Junttila is having none of it.
Junttila tries to free his leg and advance position but Griffin is retaining full guard.

Junttila has control of Griffin's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Griffin regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Junttila looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Griffin is squirming around, avoiding Junttila's attempts to control the action.

Griffin is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Junttila lands a big shot there that rocks Griffin but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Junttila goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Griffin is on top in guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Junttila bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Griffin's guard.

Griffin wants to get back to his feet but Junttila is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Junttila stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Griffin swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Griffin fails to land with a series of punches.

and Junttila counters with a shoot takedown. Griffin fights it but they end up in guard.

Junttila drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Griffin dives on top into guard.

Stewie Griffin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Junttila throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Griffin's waist but Griffin gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Junttila off to one side.

Stewie Griffin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pertti Junttila.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Junttila counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Griffin!

Junttila is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Griffin can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

That was a close second round but I would say that Stewie Griffin will probably get the nod.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Griffin wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

Junttila is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Griffin has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Griffin is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Junttila is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Griffin is surviving well by controlling Junttila's body position as best he can.

Junttila has hold of Griffin's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Griffin manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Pertti Junttila comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Junttila has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
