Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Armin Merkel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frenchy Fuqua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Merkel might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to War Is My Destiny. Fuqua has chosen Diesal Power as his entrance music. Armin Merkel has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
15 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Armin Merkel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Frenchy Fuqua!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Ian Loll and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Merkel throws an overhand right that lands on Fuqua's shoulder, as Fuqua tries to avoid the shot.
Merkel misses with a jab to the body
and Fuqua counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Merkel has his foot on Fuqua's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Fuqua works his way back into a safe position though.
Fuqua slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Fuqua stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Merkel swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Fuqua is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Merkel is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Merkel has escaped and now he's on top!
Merkel knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Fuqua on the ground.
Merkel won't allow Fuqua to sweep him here.
Merkel will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Merkel wants to pass the guard but Fuqua is keeping the position.
Fuqua is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Merkel wants to stand but Fuqua has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Fuqua had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Merkel defends it easily.
Fuqua tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Fuqua working for a triangle but Merkel defends it easily.

Fuqua is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Merkel trying to control the position from guard on top but Fuqua is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Merkel's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Armin Merkel just wasn't active enough.
Merkel connects with a nice looking jab.
Fuqua tries a head kick but it misses.
Merkel throws a right hand that misses
and Fuqua counters with a takedown into side control.
Merkel prevents Fuqua from moving into mount.
Fuqua is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Merkel has escaped the position, nice work there.
Fuqua trying to control the action but Merkel is working from the bottom.
Merkel avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Fuqua.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Frenchy Fuqua dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Fuqua closes the distance but Merkel moves to the side
and Merkel counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Armin Merkel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Merkel scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Fuqua doesn't seem bothered though.
Merkel cracks Fuqua with a good jab.
Fuqua fails with the takedown.
A looping hook to the body misses from Merkel. Fuqua does a little dance to reset his feet.
Merkel cracks Fuqua with a right hand to the side of the head.
Nice cross by Merkel.
Fuqua misses with a hook
and Merkel counters with a huge left! Fuqua is in big trouble! He's backing up but Merkel isn't giving him chance to recover. Under a barage of punches the ref has to step in to save Fuqua from any more damage. A dominating finish by Merkel!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Armin Merkel!
