PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Riper Gonzalas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rachid Hadji (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gonzalas comes to the cage accompanied by fight music. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rachid Hadji!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hadji closes the distance and clinches.

Hadji using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Gonzalas has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
The referee is keeping an eye on Hadji - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Hadji tries to land knees in the clinch but Gonzalas avoids the damage to the body.

Gonzalas tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Gonzalas jumps guard and drags Hadji to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Hadji seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Hadji is just content to waste time from the top position. Gonzalas takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Hadji bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Gonzalas's guard.

Hadji sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Gonzalas's guard.

Gonzalas is trying to maintain the position but Hadji is very close to passing his half guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Rachid Hadji hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Hadji forces Gonzalas back against the cage and clinches.

Gonzalas blocks an elbow strike from Hadji.
Gonzalas jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Hadji walks away with a smile on his face. Gonzalas gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Riper Gonzalas. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hadji loads up on a big right hand but Gonzalas slips the punch.
Gonzalas blocks a head kick by Hadji.
Hadji works Gonzalas's body with a nice hook.
Gonzalas moves away from the strike by Hadji.
Hadji lands a glancing blow to the side of Gonzalas's head.
Hadji throws an overhand right that lands on Gonzalas's shoulder, as Gonzalas tries to avoid the shot.

Hadji clinches up with Gonzalas and pushes him back against the cage.

Hadji is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Gonzalas can't fight it off and eventually Hadji manages to take the fight to the floor. Gonzalas looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Hadji lands a nice short elbow.
Hadji perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Hadji seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hadji is taking a breather. Gonzalas says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hadji passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Gonzalas!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rachid Hadji showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
