The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whip misses with a takedown

and Erickson counters with a shoot takedown. Whip fights it but they end up in guard.
Erickson is looking to work some ground and pound but Whip has wrist control.
Erickson wants to control from the top but Whip keeps moving.
Whip wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Erickson is now in half guard.

Whip looking for submissions off his back.

Erickson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Whip is just riding it out for now. Erickson eventually gives up the hold.

Whip is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Erickson throws and elbow that misses. Whip uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Erickson's guard. Nice move by Whip!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Whip wants to control from the top but Erickson keeps moving.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Erickson avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Whip wants to stand but Erickson has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Whip trying to control the position from guard on top but Erickson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Whip stands up over Erickson, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Erickson pulls Whip in close to his closed guard and prevents Whip from doing any damage or advancing position.
Whip throws and elbow that misses. Erickson uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Whip's guard. Nice move by Erickson!

Erickson looking to sit in guard and control but Whip gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Whip throws a big right hand that misses.
Whip would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Whip working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Whip postures up in Erickson's guard and throws a big left but Erickson blocks it.
Whip postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Whip has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Erickson holds on and takes a little breather.
Whip thows a big elbow that misses.
Whip will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Whip postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Erickson is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Whip, into his guard.

Davis Erickson dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Whip moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Erickson misses with a hook. Whip ducked under it nicely.
Waldo Whip seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Erickson clobbers Whip with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

and Erickson counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

and Erickson counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

It looks like Waldo Whip has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Erickson cracks Whip with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Davis Erickson has got the better of the ground game so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Erickson won't let Whip get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
