PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mikio Okita (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tommy Lotus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lotus has chosen Eye of the tiger as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mikio Okita!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 13 - 1, fighting out of London, Tommy Lotus!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, James Glass and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Okita catches Lotus with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Lotus looks to score with a jab to the body but Okita is just out of range.
No joy there for Lotus, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Okita throws a hook but Lotus avoids it easily.
Lotus swings away with a body shot that misses
and Okita cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

and Okita counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Lotus throws a hook but Okita avoids it easily.

and Lotus counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Lotus staying out of range there.
Lotus uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Okita.
Okita lands with a nice body punch.
Lotus takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Okita shoots for a double leg takedown but Lotus sprawls well. He's pushed Okita's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Okita misses with a hook
and Lotus counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Okita works the jab nicely.
Lotus swings away with a body shot that misses
and Okita connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
A shot to the body from Lotus misses
and Okita counters with a nice body shot.
Lotus throws a right hand that misses
and Okita makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Lotus fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Okita looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

and Okita counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Lotus's guard now.
Okita tries to free his leg and advance position but Lotus is retaining full guard.
Lotus has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Okita has passed into side control.
Okita trying to control the action but Lotus is working from the bottom.
Okita scores with punches from side control.

Okita working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Lotus manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Okita trying to hold on to Lotus's head to control him but Lotus postures up.
Lotus keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Lotus wants to advance to full mount but Okita doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Lotus must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Okita has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Okita lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Lotus!

Lotus tries to improve his position but instead Okita has taken his back!

Okita is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Lotus. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.

Lotus is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Okita gets his way!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Okita is looking to control Lotus but Lotus is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Okita misses with a punch to the head.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Lotus ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Lotus falls off balance throwing a combination
and Okita connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Lotus throws a looping overhand right but Okita ducks down to avoid it.
A big right from Okita misses.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Okita.
You can see the frustration on Lotus's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Okita tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Lotus can't do much from the bottom here.
Lotus gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Lotus wants to sweep but Okita has passed to side control!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Lotus is letting Okita control him for a moment.
Okita is looking to take a break and control but Lotus is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Lotus tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Lotus is wriggling around trying to escape.
Okita lands a nice shot to the head.
Okita wants to control the pace but Lotus is squirming around nicely.
Lotus is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
BOOM! Okita connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Lotus is looking to improve his position but Okita isn't that keen on the idea.
Lotus is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Lotus is breathing heavily.

Okita wants to control the pace but Lotus is squirming around nicely.

Okita looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Lotus misses with a hook to the body

and Okita counters with a single leg into guard. Lotus didn't expect that.
Mikio Okita overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Okita makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Okita is working Lotus over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Lotus is looking to sweep but instead, Okita has passed into half guard.
Lotus wants to control but Okita is keeping busy.
Okita seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Lotus does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Okita prevents Lotus from standing back up.

Okita is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Okita looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Okita wants to work for an arm triangle but Lotus is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Okita has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Lotus is looking to improve his position but Okita isn't that keen on the idea.
Lotus trying desperately to get to his feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Okita raining down hammerfists from mount.

Okita goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Lotus turns into him and now he's in Okita's guard.
Okita wants to sweep but no luck.
Okita is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Lotus takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Lotus is staying active underneath Okita, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Okita is thwarting Lotus's attempts to control the position.

Okita is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Lotus doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Okita.

Well Okita has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
