PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Austin Nidorenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stu Bennett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bennett has chosen Smuggly Ugly as his entrance music. On his way into the ring it seems that Austin Nidorenko has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Austin Nidorenko seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Austin Nidorenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Stu Bennett!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Damien Edna and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bennett closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the ropes.

Bennett's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Bennett will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Bennett closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Nidorenko quickly recovers to half guard.
Bennett throwing shots but Nidorenko is blocking nicely.
Bennett is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Nidorenko!
Nidorenko wants to hold on but Bennett pushes him away.

Bennett is working for a guillotine from mount but Nidorenko frees his head quite easily.
Nidorenko tries to improve his position but instead Bennett has taken his back!
Bennett has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Nidorenko's body.

Nidorenko is trying to get back to his feet but Bennett has full control of the position and if anything, Nidorenko has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Bennett's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Bennett is trying to stick to Nidorenko's back but Nidorenko is turning into Bennett. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Bennett's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Nidorenko.

Bennett decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Nidorenko, up you get!
Bennett shoots in for a takedown but Nidorenko shows good takedown defense.
Nidorenko throws a series of punches but Bennett avoids them all with ease.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Bennett moves into the clinch.

Bennett decides to pull guard.
Nidorenko cracks Bennett with a solid left hand.

Bennett working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Nidorenko has passed into half guard!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bennett can do anything to dispel that myth.

Still in half guard, Nidorenko seems content to control.
Bennett wants to control but Nidorenko is keeping busy.
Nidorenko thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Bennett's head.

Nidorenko looks to clinch

and Bennett decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Nidorenko's guard.

Nidorenko pushes Bennett off and scrambles back to his feet.

Bennett forces Nidorenko back against the ropes and clinches.

Bennett breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Bennett tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Nidorenko is able to avoid easily.

and Bennett counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Nidorenko!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Nidorenko's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Nidorenko really wants to buck Bennett off and get back to his feet.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Nidorenko takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
No joy there for Nidorenko, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Bennett jumps guard but Nidorenko stands there with Bennett around his waist. Bennett gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
