PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chuck Jardine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rans Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jardine comes to the ring accompanied by WEED MAN. Gracie is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Danger! High Voltage. Chuck Jardine had a look across the ring there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Chuck Jardine!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rans Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Roosa Järviläinen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jardine tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Gracie takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Gracie avoids the head kick by Jardine.
Jardine throws a right hand that Gracie ducks under and follows up with a left that Gracie also avoids with ease.
Jardine misses with a left hand

and Gracie counters with a single leg into guard. Jardine didn't expect that.

Gracie thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Gracie passes into half guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Gracie seems to be working for a kimura but Jardine defends the submission attempt.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Gracie is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jardine is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Jardine wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.
Jardine is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Gracie is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Gracie is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Jardine sees it coming and defends easily.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Gracie seems to be working for a kimura but Jardine defends the submission attempt.
Jardine wants to improve his position but Gracie is controlling well.
Gracie wants to advance to full mount but Jardine doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

Gracie is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Gracie trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Jardine is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Gracie postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Jardine is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gracie, into his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rans Gracie dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

A nice left hand lands by Jardine.

Gracie has clasped his hands together around Jardine's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Jardine manages to get back to half guard.

Gracie is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Jardine has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gracie is working away from the top position though.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Gracie is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Jardine!

Gracie goes for an armbar but Jardine turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Jardine.
Gracie is breathing heavily.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jardine accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Gracie working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jardine doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jardine manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Gracie is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Jardine defends well.

Jardine is really struggling to control Gracie but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Rans Gracie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Jardine throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Gracie avoids the body shot from Jardine.
Jardine throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Jardine looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Jardine misses with a two punch combination.
Nice straight punches there by Jardine. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Jardine.

and Gracie counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Gracie drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gracie jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Jardine is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Gracie has his foot on Jardine's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jardine works his way back into a safe position though.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Jardine stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gracie swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Jardine has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Jardine throws a right hand that Gracie ducks under and follows up with a left that Gracie also avoids with ease.

Gracie shoots in for a takedown but Jardine shows good takedown defense.
Gracie shoots in for a double leg but Jardine sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
A combination from Jardine does no damage.

Jardine gets caught flat footed, as Gracie shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Gracie slips nicely into half guard.

Gracie is looking for a kimura but Jardine is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gracie to get the leverage.
Rans Gracie is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Jardine looks like he's trying to stand up.

Gracie is working for a kimura but Jardine is defending it quite comfortably.

Rans Gracie comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Gracie winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
