PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Frito Lei (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damien Daiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Damien Daiz!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A looping hook to the body misses from Lei. Daiz does a little dance to reset his feet.

Daiz changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Lei looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Lei throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Daiz throws a nice head kick!
Lei tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Daiz was well out of range. Poor timing from Lei.

Lei clinches up against the cage.

Daiz manages to break the clinch.

Lei has closed the distance and engaged Daiz in a clinch.
Daiz misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Lei.
Daiz jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Lei walks away with a smile on his face. Daiz gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Lei takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Daiz rushes Lei and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Lei breaks from the clinch.
Lei swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Daiz counters with a left and a right that stings Lei.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Lei tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Daiz misses with a takedown attempt - Lei sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Lei clinches up with Daiz and pushes him back against the cage.
Lei misses with an elbow over the top.
Daiz goes for a takedown attempt but Lei pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Lei instigates a clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Daiz's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Lei looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Lei digs a right hand underneath Daiz's ribcage. Daiz let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Lei's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Daiz connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

and Daiz counters with a shoot takedown. Lei fights it but they end up in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Daiz lands a couple of elbows.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lei is breathing heavily.
Daiz tries to stand but Lei is controlling from the bottom.
Daiz sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Lei's guard.

Daiz stops Lei from getting back to his feet.
Daiz lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Lei wants to get back to his feet.
Lei knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Daiz on the ground.

Lei is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Daiz takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

You get the feeling that Lei really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Daiz looking to control but Lei is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Daiz won't let Lei get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Lei has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever.
Lei has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Lei trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Lei might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Daiz stands up and beckons Lei to join him on the feet.

Daiz throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lei's waist but Lei gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Daiz off to one side.

Lei throws a leg kick which misses Daiz's front leg but catches the back leg as Daiz tries to avoid it.

Daiz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lei as he jumps to the side.

Daiz looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lei is fending him off so far but Daiz persists. Nope, Lei circles away and we're back to standing.

Daiz tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Daiz has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Lei is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Daiz has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Lei wants to stand back up but Daiz manages to pass into side control.
Lei on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Lei tries to get out of the position.
Lei is pushing Daiz's head away, looking to escape. Daiz manages to hold on to the position though.
Daiz tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Daiz is working to tighten is grip on Lei's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Lei has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Daiz is really squeezing tight and eventually Lei passes out! Daiz breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
