PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sandy Hawkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sunan Mongkut (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hawkins comes to the cage accompanied by Enter Sandman. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sandy Hawkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sunan Mongkut!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Alec Ball and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mongkut checks a leg kick.
Mongkut misses the shot to the body.
Mongkut throws a sloppy body shot
and Hawkins counters with a left and a right that stings Mongkut.
Mongkut tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Mongkut misses with a double jab
and Hawkins makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
A left lands for Hawkins.
Hawkins with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Mongkut to score with a decent uppercut.
Hawkins walks into a left hand.
Mongkut throws a lazy uppercut
letting Hawkins counter with a right hand.
Hawkins has a takedown stuffed.
Mongkut misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hawkins.
Mongkut bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Hawkins's head backwards.

Hawkins shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Mongkut is trying to defend but Hawkins finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Hawkins digs a right hand into Mongkut's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Mongkut's gas tank.

Hawkins tries to throw a body punch but Mongkut avoids it by throwing Hawkins back against the cage.

and Hawkins makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

and Hawkins counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Sunan Mongkut is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Hawkins lands a big shot there that rocks Mongkut but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Mongkut wants to control but Hawkins is having none of it.
Mongkut is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Hawkins postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Mongkut looks a forlorn figure.
Hawkins throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mongkut's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Hawkins cracks Mongkut with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Mongkut is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Sandy Hawkins overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Mongkut throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Mongkut really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hawkins. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
