PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jose Luis Castillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kung Lao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Castillo comes to the cage accompanied by DJ Khaled - Out Here Grindin. Lao has chosen Mortal Kombat-Techno Kombat as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jose Luis Castillo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kung Lao!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, John Roberts and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Castillo throws a predictable looking body shot
and Lao connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Castillo throws an off balance right hand

and Lao counters with a single leg into guard. Castillo didn't expect that.
Lao trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Lao trying to control but Castillo is working from the bottom.
Lao postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Castillo manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Castillo controlling the pace for now.
Lao is wriggling around trying to escape.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lao is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Castillo can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Lao is looking to escape.
Castillo takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Castillo's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

We're going to have a standup here because Jose Luis Castillo wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Castillo thumps Lao with a low kick.
Castillo lands a leg kick that knocks Lao off balance momentarily.
Lao is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Lao shoots in looking for a takedown but Castillo manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Lao's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Lao closes the distance and clinches up with Castillo, looking for a takedown. Lao pushes Castillo against the cage but Castillo circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Lao takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Lao shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Castillo as he avoids it easily.
Jose Luis Castillo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kung Lao.

and Castillo counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jose Luis Castillo will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Lao takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Castillo connects with a crisp jab.
Castillo lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Lao uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Castillo.
Castillo throws a push kick but Lao slaps the foot to one side.

Jose Luis Castillo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

letting Lao counter with a right hand.
Castillo throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Castillo motions for Lao to come forward. Castillo throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Lao closes this distance looking for a takedown but Castillo circles away.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Lao avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Lao scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Castillo thows a body shot but no joy.
Castillo moves out of range of the leg kick from Lao.
Jose Luis Castillo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Castillo counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Castillo fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Lao has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Castillo connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
A slapping leg kick lands for Castillo.
Castillo throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Lao.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Castillo misses with a low kick.
Castillo throws a shot to the body.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jose Luis Castillo will probably get the nod.

Castillo takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Castillo turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Castillo cracks a nice hook into Lao's ribs.

Lao's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Castillo connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Lao scrambles back to his feet.

Castillo throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Lao moves out of range as Castillo strikes.
An inside leg kick lands from Castillo.
Castillo scores with a leg kick.
Lao slips under a jab from Castillo.

Castillo throws an ugly left hook that misses
enabling Lao to counter with a crisp jab.
Castillo attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Lao misses with a straight left.
Castillo tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Lao is able to avoid easily.
Kung Lao has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Lao's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Castillo works Lao's body with a nice hook.

Castillo buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Good leg kick by Castillo there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

and Lao counters with a takedown into side control.

Lao is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Castillo has escaped the position, nice work there.
Castillo tries to buck Lao off but Lao is having none of it.
Lao sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Castillo is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Jose Luis Castillo showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Castillo, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
