PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Melbrooks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mayuri Tatsuki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Melbrooks comes into the arena with Motorhead - Smiling like a killer blaring out of the sound system. The crowd seem to be enjoying Tatsuki's choice of entrance music: Norther - Released. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, John Melbrooks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mayuri Tatsuki!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Wagner Zegers and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Melbrooks tries to land a body kick

and Tatsuki counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Tatsuki thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Melbrooks's head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Tatsuki seems to be working for a kimura but Melbrooks defends the submission attempt.
Tatsuki passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Melbrooks!

Tatsuki has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Melbrooks can't escape the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Tatsuki throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Melbrooks tries to control the position but Tatsuki now has his back.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

I really don't envy Melbrooks right now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Melbrooks shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Melbrooks throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.

and Tatsuki counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Tatsuki takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

and Tatsuki counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Tatsuki on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Tatsuki will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Tatsuki takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Melbrooks lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Melbrooks throws a body punch but Tatsuki moves out of range.

and Tatsuki counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

A nice inside leg kick there by Melbrooks. That's going to slow Tatsuki down.

Melbrooks is looking to wear down Tatsuki with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Tatsuki shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Melbrooks pinned against the cage. Melbrooks gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Tatsuki will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
John Melbrooks has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mayuri Tatsuki.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of John Melbrooks.

Tatsuki throws a right and a left that Melbrooks avoids nicely.
Melbrooks lands with a thumping leg kick.

and Tatsuki makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

The fight stays on the outside here - Melbrooks looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Tatsuki's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.

The fighters circle momentarily. Tatsuki darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

and Tatsuki cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Melbrooks throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Tatsuki takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.

and Tatsuki counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Tatsuki looks to score with a jab to the body but Melbrooks is just out of range.
Tatsuki throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
A solid leg kick lands there for Melbrooks.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Melbrooks lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Tatsuki has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Tatsuki and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Tatsuki takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
A head kick misses from Melbrooks.
Melbrooks throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Melbrooks stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Tatsuki tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Melbrooks moves in looking to clinch but Tatsuki pushes him off.

and Tatsuki counters with a stiff right hand.

Tatsuki throws the kick towards the body but Melbrooks avoids it.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Mayuri Tatsuki comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Tatsuki has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
