PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jecko Macapagal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Larry Ness (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ness has chosen 2Pac - Untouchable/Paper Airplanes Remix as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jecko Macapagal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Larry Ness!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Eddie Farnsworth and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ness fails in his attempt to clinch.

Ness clinches up against the cage.
Ness slows down the pace here.

Ness gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Ness looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Ness is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Macapagal defends it well.

Macapagal knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ness on the ground.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ness accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Ness is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Macapagal really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Jecko Macapagal.

Macapagal scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Ness is positioning himself well to prevent Macapagal advancing to mount.
Ness's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Ness is pressing down on Macapagal's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Ness pulls Macapagal in close to prevent any damage.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Macapagal has gone for a leg lock! Ness slips out almost immediately though and dives into Macapagal's guard.
Ness stands up over Macapagal, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Ness is in close to Macapagal's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Macapagal will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Macapagal is breathing heavily.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ness accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Macapagal on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Macapagal tries to get out of the position.
Ness cracks Macapagal with a solid left hand.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Ness has closed the distance and engaged Macapagal in a clinch.
Ness drops down looking for an ankle pick but Macapagal pulls his leg out and moves away.

Ness rushes Macapagal and presses him up against the cage.

Macapagal breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Ness lands with a nice combination. Macapagal backs away looking to recover.
Ness fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Ness swinging wildly here.
Ness rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Macapagal moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Ness lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Macapagal backs up against the cage.
Ness closes the distance but Macapagal moves to the side

and Macapagal counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Ness is adopting a defensive guard.

Macapagal trying to control the position from guard on top but Ness is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ness pulls Macapagal in close to his closed guard and prevents Macapagal from doing any damage or advancing position.
Ness utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ness seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

We're going to have a standup here because Jecko Macapagal wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Ness fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Macapagal, pushing him back against the cage.

Macapagal manages to pull guard.

Ness is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Macapagal is looking to stand up but Ness isn't so interested in that idea.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Ness scoring with some ground and pound.
Ness stands and throws Macapagal's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Ness has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

You can see the frustration on Macapagal's face as Ness controls the position.
Ness lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Macapagal down.

Ness is looking to take a break and control but Macapagal is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Ness tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ness has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

You can see the frustration on Macapagal's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Larry Ness showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Ness throws a combination. Macapagal tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Ness clinches.

Ness has picked Macapagal up - he's going for a ride! Ness dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Ness working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Ness seems to be working for a kimura but Macapagal defends the submission attempt.
Macapagal keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

Ness is nestled in close to Macapagal, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Ness seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Ness winds up and cracks Macapagal with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Macapagal is concentrating on defense, preventing Ness from advancing position.

Ness is working for a submission of some sort.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ness looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Macapagal with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Well Ness has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
