PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Akira Ishikawa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Abbott Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ishikawa comes to the cage accompanied by mindshift genki sudo. Abbott Jr comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Metallica - Master of Puppets kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Akira Ishikawa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Frank Abbott Jr!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Donatello Bradman and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Abbott Jr misses with a body shot

and Ishikawa counters with a nice double leg into side control. Abbott Jr won't be happy with that.
Abbott Jr is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Abbott Jr wants to improve his position but Ishikawa is controlling well.
Abbott Jr is refusing to be controlled, as Ishikawa sits in half guard.
Ishikawa tries to pass the half guard into mount. Abbott Jr knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Ishikawa wants to control but Abbott Jr is keeping him busy.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Abbott Jr tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Abbott Jr is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ishikawa is aware though and is defending well.

Ishikawa got a little sloppy there for a moment and Abbott Jr has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ishikawa has managed to get both his arms back between Abbott Jr's legs - danger averted.

Ishikawa controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Ishikawa seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Abbott Jr for as long as he can get away with.

Ishikawa is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Abbott Jr is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Abbott Jr has escaped and now he's on top!

Ishikawa has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Abbott Jr can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Abbott Jr shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Abbott Jr showed some decent athleticism there.

Ishikawa is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Ishikawa has hold of one of Abbott Jr's legs. Abbott Jr is fighting the takedown attempt but Ishikawa gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Abbott Jr can't control as he wanted to and Ishikawa manages to get the fight back to his half guard.

Abbott Jr stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ishikawa swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Akira Ishikawa is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Ishikawa has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Abbott Jr throws the left hand but Ishikawa avoids the punch easily.

and Abbott Jr counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Abbott Jr tries to bum rush Ishikawa with a series of wild strikes but Ishikawa uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Ishikawa postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Ishikawa is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Frank Abbott Jr has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Abbott Jr doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

I would just about give that final round to Frank Abbott Jr.
I think Ishikawa has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
