PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ren Rothschild (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kato Aspenia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Ren Rothschild!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kato Aspenia!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Tarja Halkonen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rothschild has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Aspenia can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Aspenia can do anything to dispel that myth.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Aspenia shoots in and drives through. Rothschild sprawls well.

Rothschild feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Aspenia got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rothschild has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Aspenia has managed to get both his arms back between Rothschild's legs - danger averted.
Rothschild is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Aspenia is sitting in close to Rothschild's body. Rothschild has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Aspenia is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Aspenia is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Rothschild.
