Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Scott Cain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jose Aldo!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Robert Twigg and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aldo misses with a looping right.
Cain fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Cain throws an overhand right that lands on Aldo's shoulder, as Aldo tries to avoid the shot.
Aldo misses with an uppercut. Cain saw that one coming.
Cain throws a sloppy body shot
and Cain takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Cain shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Aldo misses the shot to the body.
Aldo throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Aldo throws a right hand that Cain ducks under and follows up with a left that Cain also avoids with ease.
Aldo leaves Cain with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Aldo swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Aldo misses with a wild body shot.
Cain moves out of range of the strikes.
Cain takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Aldo misses with a hook
and Cain counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Aldo looks to throw the jab but Cain is out of range.
Aldo ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Cain moves away.

Cain dives in and scores a takedown into Aldo's guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Cain wants to control from the top but Aldo keeps moving.
Aldo wants to sweep here but Cain controlling him for the moment.
Cain advances position into side control!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cain in side control, throwing shots but Aldo defends.
Aldo is trying to control Cain's posture but Cain avoids it.
Aldo tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cain wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Cain tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Cain has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Aldo wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Aldo tries to bench press Cain off him but Cain keeps the position.

Aldo is not content to let Cain control the position.
Cain tries to advance to mount but Aldo denies him.
Aldo gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Aldo tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Cain goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Aldo is on top in guard.
Cain keeping moving, preventing Aldo from controlling successfully.

Cain looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Aldo looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Cain looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Aldo puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cain trying to hold on to Aldo's head to control him but Aldo postures up.
It looks like Aldo is going to stand back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Scott Cain will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Aldo gets caught napping as Cain dives in and scores a takedown. Aldo manages to retain guard.
Cain passes Aldo's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Cain is looking to take a break and control but Aldo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Cain is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Aldo sees it coming and defends easily.

Cain is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Cain thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Aldo's head.

Cain seems to be working for a kimura but Aldo defends the submission attempt.
Cain uses his free foot to push down on Aldo's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Aldo.
Cain wants to take Aldo's back here but Aldo is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Aldo is squirming around, avoiding Cain's attempts to control the action.
Aldo is in all sorts of trouble here.
Cain tries to control but Aldo wriggling away.

Cain fails to move to back control.
Aldo keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Aldo is squirming around, avoiding Cain's attempts to control the action.
Cain tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Aldo slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Aldo kicks Cain off and gets back to his feet.
Aldo throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
No luck for Cain with that takedown attempt.
Cain slips under a jab.

Cain looks to land a left hand but Aldo moved out of range nicely.
Cain getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Aldo feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Cains jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Aldo fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
The fighters circling - Aldo throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Cain loads up on a big right hand but Aldo slips the punch.
Aldo fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Cain manages to avoid it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Aldo slaps away a takedown attempt from Cain, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Aldo throws a looping overhand right but Cain ducks down to avoid it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Scott Cain dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Aldo blocks a head kick by Cain.
Aldo lands a glancing blow to the side of Cain's head.
Cain slips under a jab from Aldo.
A combination from Aldo does no damage.
Jab, jab by Cain - just one landing.
Cain looks to land a right hand but Aldo moved out of range.
Aldo slips a jab from Cain.
Cain scores with a nice right hand.

Cain tests Aldo's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Aldo comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Crunch! Cain slams his shin into Aldo's torso.
Good leg kick by Cain there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Aldo misses with a body punch
enabling Cain to counter with a crisp jab.
Cain looks to land a left hand but Aldo moved out of range nicely.
Cain fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Cain avoids the body shot from Aldo.
Cain thuds a left hand into Aldo's body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Aldo slips under a jab.
Cain will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Cain connects with the punch.
Cain fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Scott Cain. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cain takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
A looping hook to the body misses from Aldo. Cain does a little dance to reset his feet.

Cain tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Aldo paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Cain shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Aldo sprawls well. Aldo wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Cain gets slowly back to his feet.

Jose Aldo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Scott Cain.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cain, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
