Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jose Aldo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vladimir Matyushenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Aldo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vladimir Matyushenko!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Mauricio Rocha and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Matyushenko gets caught flat footed, as Aldo shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Matyushenko had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Aldo defends it easily.
Matyushenko trying to keep a closed guard but Aldo is proving a slippery customer.

Aldo tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Aldo decides to stand back up. Aldo steps back and let's Matyushenko get back to his feet.
Aldo tries for a takedown but Matyushenko sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Matyushenko takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Aldo tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Aldo tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Matyushenko manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Aldo throws a shot to the body.

Matyushenko drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Matyushenko throws a strike but Aldo rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Aldo postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Aldo stands and throws Matyushenko's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Aldo is looking to take a break and control but Matyushenko is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Matyushenko is trying to control Aldo's posture but Aldo avoids it.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Matyushenko can do anything to dispel that myth.

Aldo stands up.
Aldo tries to clinch up but Matyushenko circles away and keeps his distance.

No joy there for Aldo, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Vladimir Matyushenko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Matyushenko is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Aldo knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Matyushenko goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Aldo rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Matyushenko's guard! Nice work there by Aldo!

Matyushenko throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Aldo's waist but Aldo gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Matyushenko off to one side.

Aldo feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Matyushenko is breathing heavily.
Aldo pushes down on Matyushenko's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Aldo is trying to control the action in half guard but Matyushenko is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Aldo wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Matyushenko, who protects the arm well.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Aldo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Matyushenko keeps working.

Aldo wants to control but Matyushenko is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Matyushenko is defended easily by Aldo.
Aldo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Matyushenko as he avoids it easily.
Aldo shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Matyushenko sprawls well. Matyushenko wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Aldo gets slowly back to his feet.

Matyushenko isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Aldo stacks Matyushenko on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Aldo!

Aldo stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Matyushenko to get to his feet.
Aldo closes the distance and clinches up with Matyushenko, looking for a takedown. Aldo pushes Matyushenko against the cage but Matyushenko circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Matyushenko shoots in but no luck this time.
Matyushenko takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Aldo uses his free foot to push down on Matyushenko's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Matyushenko.

Vladimir Matyushenko has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Matyushenko might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Aldo kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Well Aldo has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
