PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Nag Hambukoo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kung Lao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hambukoo kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Darkest Hour. Lao is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Mortal Kombat-Techno Kombat. Nag Hambukoo has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Nag Hambukoo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kung Lao!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Gregory Folan and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lao plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Hambukoo doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Lao counters by clinching up.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Lao as Hambukoo tries to tie him up.
Lao can't find room to land a body shot as Hambukoo controls the action.

Lao's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Lao walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Hambukoo checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Lao feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Hambukoo's calf.

Lao tries to sprawl but Hambukoo drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Hambukoo is trying to control. Lao wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Hambukoo is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Hambukoo seems to be looking for submissions.
Lao trying to control from the bottom.

Lao blocking the ground and pound attempt from Hambukoo.

Hambukoo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Lao regains full guard. Nicely done.
Hambukoo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lao swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hambukoo is working hard here to advance position.
Hambukoois looking to pass into half guard but Lao pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Lao is in guard.

Hambukoo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Lao has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hambukoo is working away from the top position though.
Lao makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Lao.
Lao keeping moving, preventing Hambukoo from controlling successfully.
Lao has Hambukoo pulled in close to control his posture.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Lao wants to sweep here but Hambukoo controlling him for the moment.

Lao seems keen to control Hambukoo's posture.
Hambukoo missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Hambukoo thows a big elbow that misses.
Hambukoo trying to control the position from guard on top but Lao is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hambukoo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lao swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Nag Hambukoo wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Hambukoo shoots in looking for a takedown but Lao manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hambukoo's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Lao throws a nice outside leg kick.

Lao defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Hambukoo.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nag Hambukoo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lao connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Nag Hambukoo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lao stuffs the takedown.

Hambukoo looking to score a takedown here. Lao is defending well but Hambukoo drives through and ends up in Lao's guard.
Hambukoo wants to control from the top but Lao keeps moving.

Lao looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Lao is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Hambukoo stands and throws Lao's legs to the side, diving into side control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Lao is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Nag Hambukoo will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Hambukoo shoots in but no luck this time.
Hambukoo with a lazy takedown attempt
and Lao counters with a good low kick that Hambukoo was not able to check.
Lao dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Hambukoo. That did some damage!
Lao scores with a kick to the midsection.
Lao throws a solid leg kick but Hambukoo takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Lao.
Lao tries to land a front kick but Hambukoo steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Lao throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Hambukoo was covering up waiting for the punch and Lao finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Lao not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Hambukoo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Lao avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Hambukoo.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hambukoo is working for a submission of some sort.
Hambukoo prevents Lao from improving his position.
Hambukoo not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Hambukoo is looking to stall here but Lao recovers full guard.
Hambukoo tries to free his leg and advance position but Lao is retaining full guard.

Lao has Hambukoo pulled in close to control his posture.
Lao trying to keep a closed guard but Hambukoo is proving a slippery customer.
Hambukoo throws a strike but Lao rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Lao is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Hambukoo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lao can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Lao's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Kung Lao wasn't active enough on the ground.

Hambukoo misses with a body punch.
Lao is working Hambukoo over against the cage.
Lao misses with a hook to the ribs.

Lao lands an uppercut.

Lao's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Lao leaves Hambukoo with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nag Hambukoo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Lao tried to score with a low kick but Hambukoo checks it.
Hambukoo shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Lao but Lao pushes him off and we're back to square one.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Lao has managed to clinch.
Lao has a couple of punches blocked by Hambukoo.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kung Lao showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Hambukoo's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Lao lands an overhand right.
Hambukoo takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Lao moves out of range as Hambukoo strikes.
A lazy body kick from Lao
and Hambukoo cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Hambukoo doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Lao makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Hambukoo displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Lao throws out the jab.

Lao clinches up with Hambukoo and pushes him back against the cage.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Hambukoo.
Lao pushes Hambukoo back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Lao is working Hambukoo over against the cage.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Lao digs a right hand into Hambukoo's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Hambukoo's gas tank.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Lao misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Lao is trying to maintain a safe position but Hambukoo gets an underhook and turns Lao into the cage.

Lao breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Lao fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Hambukoo.
Lao throws a series of punches but Hambukoo moves out of range.
Hambukoo wants to clinch.
Hambukoo takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Lao motions for Hambukoo to come forward. Lao throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Hambukoo tries for a takedown but Lao sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nag Hambukoo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lao feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Hambukoo's calf.
Hambukoo throws a hook but Lao blocks it.
Hambukoo tries to score a power double leg takedown but Lao sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hambukoo somewhat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Lao breaks from the clinch.
Lao throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Hambukoo stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Lao.
Hambukoo fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
This has been an exciting period of action!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Lao enables Hambukoo to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Lao manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Hambukoo won't allow Lao to sweep him here.
Lao is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Lao looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Lao is trying to control the position but Hambukoo postures up.
Hambukoo trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Lao looking to control.
Hambukoo trying to control but Lao is working from the bottom.
Hambukoo wants to pass the guard but Lao is keeping the position.
Lao has control of Hambukoo's left arm, preventing Hambukoo from doing any damage.

Hambukoo cracks Lao with a solid left hand.
Hambukoo is looking to work some ground and pound but Lao has wrist control.
Hambukoo makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Lao controls Hambukoo momentarily but Hambukoo frees himself.

Lao is looking for a triangle but Hambukoo pushes his legs off easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Kung Lao comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Lao has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
