PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rick Ruude (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Wolfen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rick Ruude!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frank Wolfen!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, David Schapiro and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wolfen is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Wolfen connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Wolfen shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Ruude eats them both and turns towards Wolfen to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Ruude works the jab nicely.
Ruude swinging wildly here.

Wolfen has closed the distance and engaged Ruude in a clinch.
Ruude wants to break the clinch but can't.
Wolfen goes for a takedown attempt but Ruude pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Wolfen fakes the leg kick and cracks Ruude in the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Wolfen is looking to clinch.
Wolfen tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Ruude swivels and escapes.
Wolfen moves forwards but Ruude connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Wolfen shoots in looking for a takedown but Ruude manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Wolfen's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Rick Ruude has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Frank Wolfen.

Ruude gets tackled into the cage by Wolfen. Wolfen maintains the clinch.
Ruude is trying to drag Wolfen to the mat but Wolfen just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Wolfen goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Wolfen tries to work over Ruude's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Ruude circles away from the clinch attempt.

Wolfen throws a head kick but Ruude moves out of range.
Ruude tries to move into range but Wolfen moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Wolfen shoots in and bounces Ruude off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wolfen throws and elbow that misses. Ruude uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Wolfen's guard. Nice move by Ruude!

Wolfen has his foot on Ruude's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ruude works his way back into a safe position though.

Wolfen had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ruude defends it easily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Wolfen wants to stand but Ruude is controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Wolfen dominated that round.

Ruude moves out of range of the leg kick from Wolfen.
Wolfen bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Ruude's head.
Wolfen goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Wolfen tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Wolfen misses with a kick to the body.
Ruude fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Wolfen avoids it really well and circles away.
Wolfen scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Wolfen connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Wolfen throws a head kick but Ruude moves out of range.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Wolfen!
Ruude swats away the attempt to clinch by Wolfen.

Ruude moves out of range of the body kick.
Ruude tries to clinch there but Wolfen circles away.
Wolfen throws a hook but Ruude blocks it.
Wolfen blocks a low kick nicely.
Rick Ruude is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Wolfen misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Wolfen tries to work over Ruude's front leg with a kick but Ruude checks it.
Ruude ducks under a wild hook from Wolfen.
Wolfen tries to clinch up.
Ruude tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Wolfen manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Wolfen misses with a few strikes there.
Ruude misses with a wild body shot.
Ruude fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Wolfen avoids it really well and circles away.

Wolfen gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Wolfen breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Ruude tries a low kick but Wolfen avoids it.
The fighters circling - Ruude throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Frank Wolfen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wolfen tries to bum rush Ruude with a series of wild strikes but Ruude uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

and Ruude counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Wolfen misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Frank Wolfen seems to be getting the better of the standup.

No joy there for Ruude, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Ruude on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Ruude tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Wolfen was well out of range. Poor timing from Ruude.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wolfen throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Ruude stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Wolfen scoring well with a low kick there.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Wolfen clinches with his opponent.
A nice right hand lands inside from Wolfen.
Wolfen swings wildly with an uppercut but Ruude uses good head movement to avoid it.
Ruude blocking some punches.

Wolfen has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Ruude regains guard immediately.

Wolfen looking to sit in guard and control but Ruude gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Wolfen pulls Ruude in close to his closed guard and prevents Ruude from doing any damage or advancing position.

Wolfen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ruude doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ruude manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Ruude lands a couple of elbows.
Wolfen wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Frank Wolfen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Wolfen lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Ruude at a distance.
Ruude lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Ruude.
Wolfen throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Ruude takes one on the button.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Decent striking displayed by Wolfen there.


Ruude is rocked!
Wolfen fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Ruude has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Oh Ruude is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
A nice inside leg kick there by Wolfen. That's going to slow Ruude down.
Wolfen is stalking Ruude. Ruude circles to his left. Keeps circling left. Bam! Straight right from Wolfen, and it's lights out! Ruude really payed the price for that rookie mistake.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:36 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Frank Wolfen!
