And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Phil Davis!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Marco Blurström and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davis is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Janis.
Janis avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Janis lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Davis loads up on a big right hand but Janis slips the punch.

It looks like Phil Davis has been cut.
Janis swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Janis connects with a leg kick. Davis looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Janis misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Janis shoots in and bounces Davis off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Davis is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Janis defends it well.

Janis pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

and Davis counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Janis dodges the punch combination from Davis.

Davis closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Janis is looking to improve his position.
Davis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Janis keeps working.
Janis is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Davis's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Davis's back!

Janis lands a shot to the head.
Janis is punishing Davis with some ground and pound.
Janis is not going to allow Davis to sit and survive in this position.
Davis is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Janis off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Janis is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Davis rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Janis looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Janis works his foot free and advances to mount.
Davis wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Davis tries to hold on but Janis pushes him away.

Janis throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Janis can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Davis is looking to escape.
Davis wants to control but Janis is having none of it.
Janis tries to control but Davis wriggling away.
Davis is desperately trying to improve his position but Janis has a good base and remains in mount.

In his post fight interview, Pyyno Janis started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
