PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Calico James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James's entrance music is Duran Duran - Hungry Like The Wolf . A fine choice. Smith has chosen Grand Magus - Hammer of the North as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Calico James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Peter Smith!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Anni Minnemäki and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith throws a head kick but James moves out of range.
James lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Smith uses good head movement to avoid the hook from James.
Smith lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
A jab from James finds it's way through Smith's defenses.
James misses with a wild body shot.
Smith scoring well with a low kick there.
Smith throws a low kick but James moves out of range easily.
James throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Smith on the side of the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
James looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
A slapping leg kick lands for Smith.
Smith bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
James avoids a punch combination nicely.
Smith throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
James keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
James chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Smith can pounce on him.
James is breathing heavily.
Smith connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Peter Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Smith throws the left hand but James avoids the punch easily.
Smith just misses with a punch to the body.
A combination from Smith does no damage.
Smith fails to land with a series of punches.
James tries for a takedown but Smith sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

James closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Smith did well to prevent James getting side control.
James seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Smith does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith wants to get back to his feet.
James thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Smith won't allow James to pass to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
James thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Smith's head.
Smith wants to get back to his feet.
Smith is refusing to be controlled, as James sits in half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

James is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Smith wants to get back to his feet.
James is looking to advance position but Smith won't allow it.
James uses his free foot to push down on Smith's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Smith.
James can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Smith is looking to escape.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Smith's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
James wants to control the pace but Smith is squirming around nicely.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
James looking to finish with strikes here!
James throws some wild stikes that Smith manages to avoid easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peter Smith dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


James lands the left hand.
Smith lands with a straight right. James didn't see that one coming.
Smith lands a jab to the head.
Peter Smith seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Smith pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Smith moves out of range as James strikes.
James shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Smith defends it nicely.
James throws a lazy right hand but Smith sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
James walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Smith misses with a jab to the body
and James counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
James takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
James swinging wildly here.
James avoids the head kick by Smith.
James blocks a head kick by Smith.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith throws a leg kick but James sees it coming and moves out of range.
Smith throws a looping overhand right but James ducks down to avoid it.
Smith defends well against a solid takedown attempt from James.
Smith looks to score with a jab to the body but James is just out of range.
Smith throws a series of punches but James moves out of range.
James will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
James avoids the head kick by Smith.
Smith connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed James momentarily.
James throws a body punch but Smith moves out of range.

James drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
James trying to control the action but Smith is working from the bottom.
James tries to score with some ground and pound. Smith controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
James sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Smith is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
James is looking to take a break and control but Smith is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Smith is trying to buck James off.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Smith is not content to let James control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith defending against the ground and pound.
James throws an elbow but Smith slips to the side and avoids it well.
James wants to control but Smith is keeping him busy.
James misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
James tries to move into full mount but can't pass Smith's legs.
James trying to control the action but Smith is working from the bottom.
Calico James overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
James misses with the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith prevents James from moving into mount.

James swings around for an armbar but Smith sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into James's guard.
James is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Smith has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of James is proving hard to escape from.

James has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Smith can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Peter Smith will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Smith looks to throw the jab but James is out of range.
James walks into a left hand.
Smith has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Smith keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
James slips a straight right by Smith.
Smith tests James's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Smith is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Smith ducks under a wild hook from James.
No luck with that takedown attempt from James.
James walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A chopping leg kick lands by Smith.
Smith displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Smith moves forwards but James connects with a nice, crisp jab.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith lands a jab.
Smith staying out of range there.
Smith connects with a body shot.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Smith sizes up James with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.


James is rocked!
Smith throws a series of punches but James moves out of range.
Oh James is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
James throws a shot from downtown. Smith moves away and avoids it.
James seems to have got his legs back now.
Smith avoids the body shot from James.
Smith thuds a left hand into James's body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Smith throws a quick head kick that skims the top of James's head.
Peter Smith is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Smith lands a right hook to the body.
James is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Smith cracks James with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Smith has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning James to stand back up!
A good leg kick by Smith.
Smith measures up his opponent and throws a superman punch that connects to the jaw! Down goes James! The ref steps in, and that's the ball game folks!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:01 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Superman Punch). Peter Smith!
Jumping up and down and very excited, Peter Smith waved his t-shirt featuring Undead clothing. All items 10$'s logo in front of the cameras.
