PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lawrence Cohen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Rider (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cohen comes to the cage accompanied by Season in the Abyss. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 16 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lawrence Cohen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ryan Rider!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Joseph Jones and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rider throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Cohen misses with a low kick.
Cohen throws a big shot that misses.
Rider misses with a wild body shot.
Cohen throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Rider sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Rider fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Cohen checks it well.
Cohen works the jab nicely.
Cohen avoids the head kick by Rider.

Cohen closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Rider's guard.

Cohen drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Rider dives on top into guard.

Rider with a flurry of punches that miss.
Cohen trying to keep a closed guard but Rider is proving a slippery customer.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cohen is on top in guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Lawrence Cohen.

and Rider connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Rider throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Cohen was covering up waiting for the punch and Rider finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Cohen passes Rider's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cohen shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Rider is trying to defend but Cohen finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Cohen drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cohen jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

We're going to have a standup here because Lawrence Cohen wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Rider enables Cohen to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Rider manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Rider is sitting in close to Cohen's body. Cohen has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Rider is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Rider is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Cohen.
