PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dave Suraski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeremy Staton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Staton has chosen Puff, The Magic Dragon as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dave Suraski!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jeremy Staton!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Jorge Garcia and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Staton throws a leg kick which misses Suraski's front leg but catches the back leg as Suraski tries to avoid it.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Suraski is defended easily by Staton.
Suraski ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Suraski gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Staton counters with a right hand to the body.
Staton lands with a right hand.
A looping hook to the body misses from Suraski. Staton does a little dance to reset his feet.
Suraski tries to score a power double leg takedown but Staton sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Suraski somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dave Suraski. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nice takedown defense from Staton. No joy for Suraski on that attempt.
Staton misses the shot to the body.
Staton slaps away a takedown attempt from Suraski, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Suraski is breathing heavily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Staton scores with a head kick. Suraski tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Staton pushes Suraski up against the cage in a clinch.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Staton creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Staton lands a hook to the side of the head.

Staton lands a right hand.
Staton struggles to land a body shot inside as Suraski controls his hands.

Staton throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Suraskis head.
Staton content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Suraski is trying to trip Staton. He has hold of a leg but Staton is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Suraski persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Staton looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Suraski wants to pass the guard but Staton is keeping the position.
Staton bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Suraski's guard.
Staton postures up in Suraski's guard and throws a big left but Suraski blocks it.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Suraski has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Staton is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Suraski.

Suraski is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Staton's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Staton in particular looking to stall.

Suraski is looking for a sweep. Staton is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Staton landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Staton seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Suraski gets full guard.
Staton throws a big right hand that misses.

Suraski has his foot on Staton's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Staton works his way back into a safe position though.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Suraski is looking to control Staton's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Suraski avoid being mounted?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Staton winds up and cracks Suraski with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Suraski is trying to get back to full guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Staton throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Suraski.

Suraski shoots in for a takedown but Staton shows good takedown defense.
Jeremy Staton seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Staton walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Suraski changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Staton looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Suraski has hold of Staton's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Staton tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Suraski cranks the arm and Staton screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Staton, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Dave Suraski!
