The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nitschke needs to keep his hands up - Shields had a free shot at his head there.
Nitschke looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Shields fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

and Shields counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Shields.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Shields is pushing down on Nitschke's leg trying to pass to half guard. Nitschke is fighting to maintain full guard but Shields has managed to sneak the leg through.
