The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Savage or perhaps it was just good defense by Van Gundy which made him look bad.
Van Gundy feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Savage's calf.
Van Gundy looks to land a body kick but Savage moved away.

Van Gundy takes the fight into the clinch.

Van Gundy fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Savage has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Savage chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Van Gundy can pounce on him.

Van Gundy lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Van Gundy tries a head kick but it misses.
Savage's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Van Gundy connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Savage scrambles back to his feet.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Van Gundy moves into the clinch.
The referee is keeping an eye on Van Gundy - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
A right hook to the body lands for Van Gundy.

Savage shoots in looking for a takedown but Van Gundy manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Savage's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Van Gundy lands a big head kick that sends Savage tumbling to the mat! Van Gundy takes a step backwards and waves Savage back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Van Gundy throws an uppercut from hell that sends Savage clean off his feet! He's out cold! Van Gundy stands back and admires his work as he thinks about that KO of the night award that is surely being wrapped up for him back stage.
