PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ivan Lavronenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dariusz Ruslan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ruslan has chosen Hester Prynne as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dariusz Ruslan!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Igor Prikhodko and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruslan misses with a double jab.

and Lavronenko counters with a takedown into side control.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Ruslan regains half guard, as Lavronenko was trying to land strikes.
Ruslan wants to get back to full guard.
Lavronenko trying to control from half guard but Ruslan is working away.
Lavronenko not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Lavronenko is taking a breather. Ruslan says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Ruslan is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Lavronenko scores with a couple of nice shots.
Lavronenko seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Ruslan does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Ruslan is looking to get back to full guard here but Lavronenko has managed to pass to side control instead.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Lavronenko has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lavronenko thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Ruslan tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Lavronenko wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Lavronenko is looking to take a break and control but Ruslan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Lavronenko lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Lavronenko tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Lavronenko has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Lavronenko shoots in looking for a takedown but Ruslan manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Lavronenko's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Ruslan is trying to trip Lavronenko. He has hold of a leg but Lavronenko is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Ruslan persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Lavronenko has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Lavronenko is not content to let Ruslan control the position.
Lavronenko is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Ruslan off and has taken his back!

Lavronenko is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Ruslan is defending well though. Lavronenko let's go of the attempt for now.

Lavronenko goes for a risky armbar from back mount and it's not paid off. Ruslan escapes and is now in half guard on top.
Ivan Lavronenko overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Lavronenko has hold of Ruslan's hands but Ruslan slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Lavronenko might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Ruslan connects with a nice short shot to Lavronenko's temple.

Lavronenko is staying active underneath Ruslan, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Ruslan might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Lavronenko kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Dariusz Ruslan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Ruslan bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Ruslan ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Lavronenko moves away.

Lavronenko is looking for a takedown.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

A battle for position here, against the cage.
Ruslan is leaning against Lavronenko and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Lavronenko can't get the takedown.
Ruslan lands a right hand that snaps the head of Lavronenko backwards.
Ruslan tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Ruslan digs a good body shot into Lavronenko's ribs.

Lavronenko looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ruslan is one step ahead there.
Lavronenko keeping moving, preventing Ruslan from controlling successfully.
Ruslan distracts Lavronenko with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Lavronenko has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ruslan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Lavronenko is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Ruslan must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Lavronenko escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ruslan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

I think Ruslan has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
