Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Giles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sub Position (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 2, fighting out of Tokyo, John Giles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sub Position!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Sosuke Kotani and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Giles. No joy for Position on that attempt.
Position shoots in but no luck this time.
Position fails with a takedown attempt.
John Giles has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sub Position.
Giles ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Position moves away.
Giles darts in and out, connecting with a jab.


It looks like Sub Position has been cut.
Position throws out a loose jab but Giles uses good head movement to avoid it.

Giles lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Position sprawling to the canvas. Giles follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Position hang on?
This has been an exciting period of action!
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Position tries to roll over but Giles keeps him under control.
Position is refusing to be controlled, as Giles sits in half guard.

Giles seems to be working for a kimura but Position defends the submission attempt.
Giles wants to take a breather but Position is having none of it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Giles thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Giles missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Position moves into full guard.
Position manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Position is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Giles can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Giles's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Position can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Giles is looking to escape.
Giles is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Position throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Position has isolated one of Giles's arms. Giles looking to fight him off but Position twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Sub Position!
A determined Sub Position didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
