PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jim Johnsson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jerome Harris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Harris comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Space Bound kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! On his way into the cage it seems that Jim Johnsson has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jim Johnsson seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jim Johnsson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jerome Harris!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Emerson Jorge and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnsson closes the distance and clinches up with Harris, looking for a takedown. Johnsson pushes Harris against the cage but Harris circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Harris shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Johnsson defends it nicely.

Harris darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Harris content to control rather than advance.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Harris looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Johnsson moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Johnsson wants to improve his position but instead Harris has moved into half guard.
Johnsson regains full guard. Nicely done.

Johnsson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Johnsson is trying to control the position but Harris postures up.
Johnsson keeping moving, preventing Harris from controlling successfully.

Harris is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Johnsson's half guard.
Johnsson tries to kick Harris off but Harris keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Johnsson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Johnsson makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Johnsson.
Harris is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Johnsson wants to sweep but no luck.
Johnsson controls Harris momentarily but Harris frees himself.

Johnsson looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Harris passes into side control.

Harris is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Johnsson manages to work his way to half guard, despite Harris's best efforts.

Johnsson looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Harris pushes past his half guard into mount!
Johnsson tries to improve his position but instead Harris has taken his back!

Harris has the hooks in. Johnsson is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Harris gets his hands free as Johnsson looks to control.
Johnsson tries to break free.
Johnsson tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Johnsson is looking to improve his position but Harris isn't that keen on the idea.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Harris sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Johnsson tries to reverse the position but Harris maintains control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jim Johnsson will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Johnsson defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Harris.
Harris tries for a takedown but Johnsson circles away easily

and Johnsson counters with a shoot takedown. Harris fights it but they end up in guard.
Harris wants to stand and escape but Johnsson is having none of it.

Harris has his feet on Johnsson's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Harris keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Harris shoots in but Johnsson avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Jim Johnsson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jerome Harris.

Johnsson throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Harris was covering up waiting for the punch and Johnsson finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Harris takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Harris wants to stand and escape but Johnsson is having none of it.
Johnsson wants to control from the top but Harris keeps moving.
Johnsson is really struggling to control Harris but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Jim Johnsson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Harris wriggles free and stands up.
Johnsson fails to land the takedown.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Harris is defended easily by Johnsson.
Harris fails with the takedown

and Johnsson counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Harris's guard now.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Johnsson advances to half guard.
Johnsson stops Harris from getting back to his feet.
Johnsson keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Harris is trying to stand up here but Johnsson is controlling him well.
Johnsson content to control rather than advance.
Johnsson frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Harris is trying to stand up.
Harris is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Johnsson controlling his opponent.
You get the feeling that Harris really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Johnsson looking to control and managing it successfully.
Johnsson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Harris is looking to escape.
Harris is trying to stand.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
