PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Chimpo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Fury (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chimpo comes to the cage accompanied by On The Darkside. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nick Fury!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chimpo connects with the punch.
Nice straight punches there by Chimpo. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Chimpo.
Fury fails in his attempt to clinch.
Chimpo throws a push kick but Fury slaps the foot to one side.
Chimpo is looking to slow Fury down with leg kicks.
Chimpo throws a body kick that misses.
Chimpo keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Chimpo ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Fury moves away.
Fury fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Chimpo has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Fury on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Chimpo moves out of range of the strikes.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Fury takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Chimpo cracks a nice hook into Fury's ribs.

Chimpo is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Chimpo with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Fury to score with a decent uppercut.
Chimpo throws the kick towards the body but Fury avoids it.

and Chimpo counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Chimpo.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Chimpo is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Fury is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Chimpo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fury swivels though and keeps the full guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Chimpo postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Fury utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Chimpo content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Fury working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Chimpo.
Chimpo trying to control the position from guard on top but Fury is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Chimpo postures up in Fury's guard and throws a big left but Fury blocks it.
Chimpo trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Chimpo throws a strike but Fury rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Chimpo has his foot on Fury's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Fury works his way back into a safe position though.

Chimpo looking to control.
Fury pushes down on Chimpo's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Chimpo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The fighters are battling for position here. Chimpo manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Fury must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Fury is looking to stand up but Chimpo won't let him.
Chimpo controls Fury momentarily but Fury frees himself.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Johnny Chimpo.
Fury goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Chimpo moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Chimpo swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Fury on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Fury walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Fury lands a nice hook to Chimpo's body. Chimpo takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Chimpo looks to land a combination but Fury avoids it well.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Fury throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
A thudding body kick lands there by Fury!

Fury moves into the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Johnny Chimpo dominated that round.

Fury takes a swing at Chimpo's ribcage but misses.

Fury takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Chimpo punishes Fury's body with a nice straight punch.

Chimpo is trying hard to land a takedown here. Fury sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Nick Fury seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fury tries to land a leg kick but Chimpo saw it coming and moves away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Fury looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Chimpo works Fury's body with a nice hook.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Fury moves out of range as Chimpo throws a body kick.
Fury scores with a hook to the body. Chimpo takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Fury swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Chimpo throws a hook to the side of Fury's head but Fury sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Chimpo on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Chimpo.
Chimpo throws a half hearted mid kick.
Chimpo shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Fury but Fury pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Johnny Chimpo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Chimpo throws a sloppy head kick and Fury moves out of range easily.

Fury takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Chimpo misses with a wild body shot.
Chimpo throws a body punch but Fury moves out of range.
Fury displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Chimpo throws out the jab.
Chimpo on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Chimpo feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Chimpo is looking to wear down Fury with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Chimpo tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Fury was well out of range. Poor timing from Chimpo.
Fury is looking to chop away at Chimpo's legs.

Fury pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Chimpo throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Chimpo pivots, looking for a leg kick but Fury is out of range and Chimpo settles back down.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Nick Fury will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Chimpo missing with a left hand there. Fury was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Chimpo throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Fury lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Fury has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Chimpo works the jab nicely.
Fury scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Fury avoids a kick to the body.
Fury lets loose with a powerful body kick. Chimpo will feel that in the morning.

It looks like Johnny Chimpo has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Chimpo misses with a body kick.
Chimpo lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Fury throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Chimpo cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Fury thows a body kick. Chimpo tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Fury moves out of range of the body kick from Chimpo.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Chimpo is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Fury is keeping busy.
Fury utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.
A nice right hand lands inside from Fury.
Fury with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Chimpo takes an elbow to the forehead.
Fury lands with a left to the head.
Chimpo wants to break free but Fury has control.
Chimpo has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Fury is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Fury goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Fury lands an uppercut.

Fury lands with a short punch from the clinch.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Fury.
Fury missing with knees to the body.
Fury misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Chimpo.

Chimpo has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Fury clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Fury tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Fury is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Fury takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Chimpo is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Fury has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Fury!

Chimpo gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Fury.
Chimpo swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Fury lands a glancing blow to the side of Chimpo's head.
Fury feints and then cracks Chimpo's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Chimpo down.
Fury moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Fury throws a head kick that half lands.
A swing and a miss from Chimpo.
Fury misses with a straight left.

Nick Fury comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Fury has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
