PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jason Potnoir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aimo Paukku (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jason Potnoir!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Aimo Paukku!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Arvi Lind and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Potnoir tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Potnoir lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Potnoir.


It looks like Aimo Paukku has been cut.
Potnoir misses with a head kick.
Potnoir keeps the fight on the outside.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Paukku.
Paukku stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Paukku wants it to stay on the feet.
Paukku misses with a jab, cross combination.
Potnoir fails in his attempt to clinch.
Paukku takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Potnoir tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Paukku counters by clinching up.
Potnoir scores with a knee to the head.

Potnoir breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Potnoir blocks a head kick by Paukku.

Potnoir bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Paukku is looking to regain half guard here but Potnoir keeps moving and retains side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Potnoir trying to control the position but Paukku is working away.

Potnoir thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Potnoir decides to stand back up.
Jason Potnoir seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Potnoir throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Potnoir leaves Paukku with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Paukku looks gassed!
Paukku looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Paukku moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Paukku.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Paukku throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Potnoir's waist but Potnoir gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Paukku off to one side.
Jason Potnoir has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aimo Paukku.

Potnoir gets a takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Potnoir decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Potnoir throws a left and a right that both miss
and Paukku makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
A head kick misses from Potnoir.
Potnoir connects with a leg kick. Paukku looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Paukku tries to clinch up.

Potnoir bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Paukku on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Potnoir stands up.
Potnoir lands a high kick!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Potnoir gets the takedown into side control.

Potnoir stands up.
Potnoir tries a head kick but it misses.

Paukku gets tackled into the ropes by Potnoir. Potnoir maintains the clinch.

Potnoir pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Potnoir throws a head kick but Paukku moves out of range.
Paukku tries to bum rush Potnoir with a series of wild strikes but Potnoir uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Paukku shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Potnoir pinned against the ropes. Potnoir gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Paukku tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Potnoir paws at him with a jab and circles away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Potnoir moves into range and clinches up with Paukku.

Potnoir's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Potnoir rushes Paukku and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Potnoir unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Potnoir lands a knee to the head.
Potnoir scores with a knee to the head.

Potnoir pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Potnoir throws a head kick that Paukku semi-blocks.

Paukku tries to keep at a distance but Potnoir has taken the fight into the clinch.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Potnoir breaks from the clinch.
A punch combination from Paukku misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jason Potnoir dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Aimo Paukku's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Paukku fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Potnoir avoids it really well and circles away.
Paukku wants to clinch.
Paukku takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
A jab from Potnoir finds it's way through Paukku's defenses.
Paukku is trying desperately to land a takedown but Potnoir is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Paukku.
Potnoir tries to clinch there but Paukku circles away.
Potnoir scores with a hook.


That has opened up Aimo Paukku's cut even more.
Jason Potnoir is winning the standup battle so far.
Paukku wants to clinch up but Potnoir keeps it at a distance.
Paukku is breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Potnoir bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Potnoir has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Potnoir closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Paukku really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Potnoir. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Potnoir has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Paukku defend it? Potnoir steps over the head and cranks it - Paukku is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Potnoir!
