PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bruce Banner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leon Czolgosz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Banner's entrance music is xavier rudd - energy song. A fine choice. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Leon Czolgosz was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Bruce Banner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Leon Czolgosz!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Czolgosz swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Banner just misses with a punch to the body.
Czolgosz throws a hook but Banner blocks it.
Czolgosz shoots in for a takedown but Banner shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Czolgosz gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Banner.

Banner closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Banner lands in his opponent's guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Banner wants to control from the top but Czolgosz keeps moving.

Czolgosz working for a triangle but Banner defends it easily.
Banner cracks Czolgosz with a solid left hand.
Banner content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Czolgosz looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Banner is staying tight to Czolgosz's torso, preventing him from escaping.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Banner connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Czolgosz some visible discomfort.
You can see the frustration on Czolgosz's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Banner works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Czolgosz is looking for a sweep. Banner is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Banner is keen to just control but Czolgosz is a slippery customer.
Czolgosz has hold of Banner's hands but Banner slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Czolgosz tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Banner not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Still in half guard, Banner seems content to control.

Banner is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Banner lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Czolgosz looking for submissions off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bruce Banner dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Banner keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Nice sprawl there from Czolgosz as Banner shoots in.
Czolgosz throws a jab when Banner was well out of range.
Czolgosz shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Banner sprawls well. Banner wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Czolgosz gets slowly back to his feet.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Banner, as that shot connected.
Czolgosz moves out of range of the strikes.
Bruce Banner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Banner tries to clinch there but Czolgosz circles away.
Banner displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Czolgosz throws out the jab.
Some bone on bone action there as Czolgosz checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Banner misses with a straight left.

The crowd cheers as Banner lands an impressive looking overhand right. Czolgosz doesn't seem phased though.

Czolgosz will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Banner slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

BOOM! Banner connects with a massive shot to the dome!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Banner lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Banner cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Banner lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Czolgosz wants to hold on but Banner pushes him away.

Banner trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Banner takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Czolgosz is looking to get to half guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Banner has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Czolgosz's face.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Banner closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Czolgosz somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet!
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Banner lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Czolgosz has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Czolgosz and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Czolgosz wants to sweep here but Banner controlling him for the moment.

Czolgosz has his foot on Banner's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Banner works his way back into a safe position though.
Czolgosz takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Czolgosz is looking to sweep but instead, Banner has passed into half guard.
Banner is trying to control the action in half guard but Czolgosz is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Czolgosz tries to roll over but Banner keeps him under control.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Banner maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Czolgosz could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Banner has cracked it and Czolgosz is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Banner!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:42 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Bruce Banner!
A very excited looking Bruce Banner made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
