Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shane Carwin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stu Bennett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bennett has chosen Smuggly Ugly as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Stu Bennett!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Steve Erwin and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carwin tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Bennett was well out of range. Poor timing from Carwin.

Bennett has closed the distance and engaged Carwin in a clinch.
Bennett blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Carwin working hard to break the clinch.

Bennett decides to pull guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Bennett has control of Carwin's left arm, preventing Carwin from doing any damage.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bennett can do anything to dispel that myth.
Carwin sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Bennett's guard.
Carwin trying to control the action but Bennett is working from the bottom.
Bennett wants to control but Carwin is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Bennett throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Carwin trying to control from half guard but Bennett is working away.
Carwin wants to pass the guard but Bennett is defending well.

Carwin is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Carwin wants to take a breather but Bennett is having none of it.

Bennett keeping moving, preventing Carwin from controlling successfully.
Carwin tries to free his leg and advance position but Bennett is retaining full guard.

Bennett has control of Carwin's left arm, preventing Carwin from doing any damage.

Stu Bennett has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Carwin misses with a hook from the clinch.

Bennett is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Carwin can't fight it off and eventually Bennett manages to take the fight to the floor. Carwin looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bennett stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Carwin swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Stu Bennett hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Carwin throws a body punch but Bennett moves out of range.
Carwin changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Carwin stuns Bennett with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Bennett takes one to the chin there.
Carwin connects with a body shot that sends Bennett's belly button to the back.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Bennett shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Carwin's guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Carwin lands a nice hook to Bennett's body. Bennett takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Carwin scores with a sloppy right hand. Bennett should have avoided that one.
Bennett takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Bennett gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Carwin has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Carwin is trying to push Bennett away but Bennett has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Bennett manages to break the clinch.

Carwin tries to circle away but Bennett has him pinned against the cage.

Bennett pulls guard.
Bennett is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Stu Bennett has got the better of the ground game so far.

Carwin won't allow Bennett to get back to his feet.

Carwin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bennett swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bennett has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Carwin has passed into side control.
Carwin is looking to take a break and control but Bennett is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Bennett is looking to regain half guard here but Carwin keeps moving and retains side control.
Bennett really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Carwin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Bennett is not content to let Carwin control the position.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Carwin lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Bennett backs up against the cage.


It looks like Stu Bennett has been cut.
Shane Carwin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Bennett is breathing heavily.

Carwin lands a lovely overhand right.

Bennett closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Bennett lands in his opponent's guard.
Bennett won't allow Carwin to sweep him here.

Carwin is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Bennett is aware though and is defending well.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Carwin lands a nice shot to the body.
Danga de danga de dang - Carwin scores with a four punch combination!
Carwin is looking to wear down Bennett with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Bennett takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Carwin listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.

Bennett closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Bennett lands in his opponent's guard.

Carwin looking for a guillotine here but Bennett defends easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Bennett throws an elbow that misses. Carwin uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Bennett's guard. Nice move by Carwin!
Bennett pulls Carwin in close to his closed guard and prevents Carwin from doing any damage or advancing position.
Carwin slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Bennett is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

You can see the frustration on Bennett's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Carwin wants to control but Bennett is keeping him busy.

Bennett tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Carwin wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Carwin is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Bennett's shoulder. That is not cool.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Carwin!
Carwin looks to land a combination. Bennett sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Bennett changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Carwin looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Carwin gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
