PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Craig David (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bakow Boran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). David comes to the cage accompanied by Craig David - Rise and Fall. Boran has chosen khmer national anthem as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Craig David!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bakow Boran!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
David takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Boran clobbers David with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Boran fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Boran tests David's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Boran just misses with a punch to the body.
Boran lands with a kick to the temple. David shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Boran fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt David.
Boran misses with a body kick.
Boran lands with a kick to the temple. David shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
David throws a right and a left that both miss.

Boran takes the fight into the clinch.
David tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Boran lands a body punch in the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
David is looking for a takedown.
Boran tried to land a shot to the body but connects with David's elbow.
Boran scores a nice knee to the body.
Boran lands a left hand that snaps the head of David backwards.
Boran gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from David.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Craig David. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Boran lands a knee to the head.


It looks like Craig David has been cut.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Boran takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Boran misses with a knee strike.

Boran breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
David takes a kick to the side of the head.
Boran bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps David's head backwards.
Boran throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Boran tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
David closes this distance looking for a takedown but Boran circles away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
David shoots for a takedown but Boran saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Boran throws a nice outside leg kick.

Boran changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. David looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
David is not content to let Boran control the position.
Boran fails to land a wild elbow strike.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Boran has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Boran misses with a body shot.

Boran shoots in and gets a takedown into David's guard.
David working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Boran.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Boran trying to control but David is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boran pushes down on David's leg and manages to get into half guard.
David is staying active underneath Boran, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
David is looking to get back to full guard here but Boran has managed to pass to side control instead.
Boran is trying to ground and pound but David uses the momentary lack of control by Boran to regain half guard.
Boran stalling.
Boran thows a huge punch but David dodges it nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Boran working over David with some ground and pound. David looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Boran is looking for a kimura here.
Boran is just content to waste time from the top position. David takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Boran must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
David will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

David looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

David is looking for a triangle but Boran pushes his legs off easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bakow Boran dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Craig David's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Boran clinches up with David and pushes him back against the cage.
David is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Boran is defending well.

Boran has hold of one of David's legs. David is fighting the takedown attempt but Boran gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

David had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Boran defends it easily.
David might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Boran trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Boran decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Boran closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Boran lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear David down.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
David takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
David misses with a strike from the bottom.
David defending against the ground and pound.
Boran misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Boran postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Boran decides to stand back up.
Boran tries to clinch up.
David has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Boran.
Boran bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of David's head.
Boran has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
A head kick misses from Boran.
Boran tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
No luck for Boran with that takedown attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Boran thuds his right hand into David's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Boran lands with a slapping head kick.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
David misses with a left hand
letting Boran counter with a right hand.
Craig David is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Boran tries a head kick but it misses.
Boran connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed David momentarily.
Bakow Boran seems to be getting the better of the standup.
David walks into a stiff left hand from Boran.
David looks for a takedown but Boran sprawls well.
Boran lands a head kick!

Boran misses with a head kick.
A looping hook to the body misses from Boran. David does a little dance to reset his feet.
Boran has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
David shoots in for a double leg but Boran sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Craig David. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Boran scores with a nice head shot.
Nice takedown defense from Boran. No joy for David on that attempt.
Boran lands a really nice looking cross but David seems unphased.
Boran plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for David. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
Boran connects with a looping right hand.
David on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Bakow Boran seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Boran lands a jab.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Boran scores with a nice right hand.
David fails with an attempt to clinch.
Boran fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches David on the side of the head.
Boran throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Boran keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
David fails with a takedown attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Boran jabs David right on the nose. David blinks but takes it well.
David takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bakow Boran showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! David's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Boran defends well against a solid takedown attempt from David.
Boran ducks down and throws a hook to the body but David moves away.
Boran takes a swing at David's ribcage but misses.
Boran throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
David fails with an attempt to clinch.
Boran lands a nice looking body shot.
David drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.


Craig David's cut is getting worse.
Boran misses with a body shot.
Boran cracks David with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Boran throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
David takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
David fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Boran gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows David to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
David throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Boran works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Boran has control of David's left arm, preventing David from doing any damage.
David throwing strikes but missing.
David controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Boran is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
David looking to pass the guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
David shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Boran pinned against the cage. Boran gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Craig David. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Boran tries to clinch up.
Boran throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A slapping leg kick lands for Boran.
David takes a body punch but keeps moving.
David takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
David gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Boran.
Boran scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Boran is looking to clinch.
Horrible takedown by David or perhaps it was just good defense by Boran which made him look bad.

Bakow Boran is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Boran wants to control from the top but David keeps moving.

David has his foot on Boran's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Boran works his way back into a safe position though.

Boran seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bakow Boran comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Boran has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
