PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jeremy Ring (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Don Juan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Juan has chosen Finish em ALL as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Don Juan was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jeremy Ring!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Don Juan!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Skip Squint and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ring misses with a jab, cross combination.
Ring takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.

Ring closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Juan did well to prevent Ring getting side control.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Juan pushes Ring off looking to stand but Ring dives back in and keeps control.
Juan is not content to let Ring control the position.

Ring is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Juan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Ring is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Juan has managed to free his arm - good work.

Ring is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Ring missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Ring is looking for submissions but instead, Juan has regained full guard.
Ring wants to control from the top but Juan keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ring throwing strikes but missing.
Ring stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Juan swivels though and keeps the full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ring accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Ring loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Ring trying to control the position from guard on top but Juan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Juan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Ring avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Juan manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ring manages to get himself to full guard.
Ring trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Ring looking to hit a scissor sweep but Juan is one step ahead there.
Juan must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Ring looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Juan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ring. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ring is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Ring has his foot on Juan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Juan works his way back into a safe position though.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Juan postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Ring is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Juan is aware though and is defending well.
Juan passes Ring's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Ring is looking to escape.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ring is trying to get back to full guard.
Ring is trying to stand up here but Juan is controlling him well.
Ring trying to control here.
Juan wants to control but Ring is keeping him busy.
Ring tries to roll over but Juan keeps him under control.
The fighters are battling for position here. Ring manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Ring has a closed guard, preventing Juan from standing up.
Ring is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Ring has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Juan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Juan trying to control but Ring is working from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Don Juan hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Ring dives in and grabs Juan's left leg, looking for a takedown. Juan pushes down on Ring's head and hops out.
Juan tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Ring manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Juan keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Juan fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ring sprawls well initially but Juan persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ring is staying active underneath Juan, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Ring is looking to improve his position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Juan stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Juan leaves Ring with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeremy Ring dominated that round.
That's time! Ring's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Ring gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Juan is sitting in close to Ring's body. Ring has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Juan is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Juan is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Ring.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Jeremy Ring!
Post fight, an emotional Jeremy Ring said 'I would like to thank Boomerang for organizing and holding this event.'.
