PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hector Cabrera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Eckhoff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Eckhoff comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Walk by Pantera kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Chris Eckhoff will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hector Cabrera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chris Eckhoff!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Robert Twigg and George Francis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Eckhoff looks to land a combination but Cabrera avoids it well.
Cabrera keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Cabrera shoots in for a takedown but Eckhoff shows good takedown defense.

Cabrera darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Eckhoff is looking to escape.

Cabrera gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Cabrera keeps the fight on the outside.
Eckhoff throws a hook to the side of Cabrera's head but Cabrera sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Cabrera feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Eckhoff looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Cabrera passes Eckhoff's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Eckhoff is looking for a sweep. Cabrera is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Cabrera wants to lay and pray for a moment but Eckhoff keeps working.
Eckhoff trying to control from the bottom.
Cabrera is keen to just control but Eckhoff is a slippery customer.

Cabrera is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Eckhoff has managed to free his arm - good work.
Cabrera tries to pass the half guard into mount. Eckhoff knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Cabrera is looking for a kimura but Eckhoff is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Cabrera to get the leverage.
Cabrera works his way into full mount!

Cabrera is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Eckhoff can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Cabrera is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Eckhoff is surviving well by controlling Cabrera's body position as best he can.
Eckhoff is trying desperately to improve position.
Eckhoff is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

Cabrera working for a submission but Eckhoff is keeping him at bay.

Cabrera is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Eckhoff has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Cabrera lands a nice shot to the head.
Eckhoff regains half guard.
Cabrera frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Eckhoff looks gassed!
Eckhoff has given up his back here. Will Cabrera look for the submission or keep pounding away?

Cabrera has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Eckhoff! Can he survive? No! He's out! Cabrera gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
