PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kristoph Gustaffson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacob Lawler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kristoph Gustaffson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jacob Lawler!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Igor Prikhodko and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gustaffson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Lawler.

Lawler instigates a clinch.

Lawler turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Lawler manages to end up in side control.
Lawler throws a strike aimed at the side of Gustaffson's head but Gustaffson avoids it well.
Gustaffson wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.
Gustaffson is not content to let Lawler control the position.
Lawler cracks Gustaffson with a big right hand but Gustaffson just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Gustaffson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Gustaffson manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Gustaffson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Lawler is just riding it out for now. Gustaffson eventually gives up the hold.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Lawler gets caught flat footed, as Gustaffson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Gustaffson drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Lawler dives on top into guard.

Gustaffson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lawler can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Gustaffson throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Lawler escapes and throws Gustaffson's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Lawler wants to control but Gustaffson is keeping him busy.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gustaffson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Gustaffson has gone for a leg lock! Lawler slips out almost immediately though and dives into Gustaffson's guard.

Lawler avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Lawler postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Gustaffson is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Lawler, into his guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gustaffson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Lawler pulls Gustaffson in to control the position.
Gustaffson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lawler swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Gustaffson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gustaffson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Lawler controls Gustaffson momentarily but Gustaffson frees himself.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Gustaffson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lawler doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Gustaffson is tightening it up a little... Lawler has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Lawler reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Lawler taps out! Nice BJJ there by Gustaffson!
