PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kauko Partio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Morrison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Partio comes to the cage accompanied by Popeda - Mä elän vieläkin. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kauko Partio!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jim Morrison!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Morrison tries a head kick but it misses.
Partio swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Morrison counters with a body kick that stops Partio in his tracks momentarily.
Morrison fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Morrison closes the distance looking to clinch
and Partio counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Partio pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Morrison tries for a takedown but Partio circles away easily
and Partio counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Morrison tries to clinch but Partio moves out of range.

and Partio counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Kauko Partio has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jim Morrison.
Partio will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Morrison fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Morrison shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Partio but Partio pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Partio misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Morrison pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Partio darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Morrison is trying hard to land a takedown here. Partio sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

and Partio counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Morrison clinches with his opponent.

Partio breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Morrison pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Morrison avoids a punch combination nicely.
Partio throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.

Partio lands a big head kick that sends Morrison tumbling to the mat! Partio takes a step backwards and waves Morrison back to his feet - he wants the finish!


It looks like Jim Morrison has been cut.
Partio really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Partio breaks from the clinch.

Morrison gets caught flat footed, as Partio shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Partio might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Partio postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Morrison has momentary wrist control but Partio slips an elbow through the middle.
Partio sitting in guard here, content to control.
Morrison throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Morrison keeping moving, preventing Partio from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Morrison is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Partio is controlling him.
Partio has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Partio seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Morrison has momentary wrist control but Partio slips an elbow through the middle.

Partio passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Partio is chipping away with strikes.
Partio has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Partio takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
BOOM! Partio connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Partio fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Partio content just to control the position here.
Partio can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Morrison is looking to escape.

Morrison is rocked!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Partio avoids the attempt from Morrison to control.
Partio lands with some strikes.
Morrison is still in real trouble! Can Partio finish him?
Partio scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Partio loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Morrison scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Partio land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Partio stands and salutes the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kauko Partio!

After the fight, Kauko Partio was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
