The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gustaffson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Diaz swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Gustaffson avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Gustaffson has Diaz up against the cage in a clinch.
Diaz lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Diaz pulls guard effortlessly.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Gustaffson is looking to work some ground and pound but Diaz has wrist control.
Gustaffson throws a strike but Diaz rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Gustaffson keeping moving, preventing Diaz from controlling successfully.
Diaz slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Gustaffson wants to get back to his feet but Diaz drags him back down.

Diaz is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Gustaffson has escaped the position, nice work there.

Diaz swings around for an armbar but Gustaffson sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Diaz's guard.
Gustaffson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Diaz is looking for a triangle but Gustaffson pushes his legs off easily.

Gustaffson has gone for a leg lock! Diaz slips out almost immediately though and dives into Gustaffson's guard.

Gustaffson isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Diaz stacks Gustaffson on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Diaz!

Diaz wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gustaffson, who protects the arm well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Diaz is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Gustaffson is surviving well by controlling Diaz's body position as best he can.
Diaz takes Gustaffson's back, avoiding a couple of desperation strikes from the bottom.
