PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Henk Merkot (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Dobson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Henk Merkot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ben Dobson!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Dean Styles and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dobson stuffs the takedown attempt from Merkot. Merkot gets slowly back to his feet.

Merkot closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Dobson quickly recovers to half guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Merkot keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Merkot seems to be looking for submissions.
Merkot content to control rather than advance.
Dobson wants to control but Merkot is keeping busy and won't allow it.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Dobson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Dobson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Merkot throws a push kick but Dobson slaps the foot to one side.
Dobson lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.


It looks like Henk Merkot has been cut.
Dobson punishes Merkot's body with a nice straight punch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Merkot shoots in and gets a takedown into Dobson's guard.
Merkot wants to pass the guard but Dobson is keeping the position.
Dobson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Merkot thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Merkot prevents Dobson from getting back to his feet.
Merkot not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Henk Merkot.
A combination from Dobson does no damage.
A looping hook to the body misses from Dobson. Merkot does a little dance to reset his feet.
No joy there for Dobson, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Dobson tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Merkot was well out of range. Poor timing from Dobson.
A left lands for Dobson.
Merkot has a takedown stuffed.
Ben Dobson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A punch combination from Dobson misses.

Dobson has taken the fight to the clinch.
Merkot tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Dobson just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Henk Merkot. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Merkot is breathing heavily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Dobson misses with a short punch on the inside.
Dobson stalling.
Dobson misses with some punches.

Merkot lands a takedown into guard.
Merkot stops Dobson from standing up.
Merkot controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Henk Merkot.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Merkot is defended easily by Dobson.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Dobson just misses with a punch to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ben Dobson dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Henk Merkot's cut.
That's time! Merkot's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Dobson drops Merkot with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Merkot looks back up at him and smiles so Dobson waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Dobson scores with a jab. Merkot acknowledges it with a nod of the head.


Henk Merkot's cut is getting worse.
Dobson connects with a picture perfect right hand that knocks Merkot out cold! This one is over in a flash!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:16 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Ben Dobson!
