PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Wai Man Li (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shaun Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nelson is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: In the Air Tonight. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Wai Man Li!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Shaun Nelson!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Tarja Halkonen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nelson tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Shaun Nelson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nelson throws a series of strikes that have Li backpedaling.

Nelson scores with a takedown into Li's guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Nelson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Nelson stands and throws Li's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Nelson throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Nelson prevents Li from escaping the position.
Li knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Nelson on the ground.
Nelson misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Li on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Li tries to get out of the position.
Li is looking for a sweep.

Nelson looking to secure an arm triangle but Li defends it well.
Li tries to hold on but Nelson postures up.
Li keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Nelson misses with a head shot.
Nelson looking to control but Li is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Li tries to reverse the position but Nelson maintains control.
Nelson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Nelson looking for a guillotine from mount but Li is having none of it.

Nelson has control of Li's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Li regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Nelson wants to control the pace but Li is squirming around nicely.

Nelson swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Li is now in Nelson's guard. A big mistake from Nelson there, giving up the dominant position!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Li slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Nelson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Li is aware though and is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shaun Nelson dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Nelson thows a body shot but no joy.

and Li counters with a shoot takedown. Nelson fights it but they end up in guard.

Li got a little sloppy there for a moment and Nelson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Li has managed to get both his arms back between Nelson's legs - danger averted.
Li is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Li seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Nelson for as long as he can get away with.
Nelson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Li not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Wai Man Li just wasn't active enough.

Li feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Li is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Li has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Li is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Nelson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Nelson has escaped and now he's on top!
Nelson works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Nelson throws a strike but Li avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Li is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Li looking to hit a scissor sweep but Nelson is one step ahead there.
Nelson wants to control from the top but Li keeps moving.

Li drops Nelson with a big left hand! Nelson is injured, injured bad! Li jumps in and finished him with strikes! The fight is over!
