PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Nasir Drogo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Freeman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Drogo comes to the cage accompanied by I Don't Like the Look of It. Freeman has chosen Real American as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nasir Drogo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Matt Freeman!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, David Schapiro and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Left hook, right uppercut from Drogo.
Drogo throws a leg kick but Freeman checks it.
Drogo stuffs the takedown attempt from Freeman. Freeman gets slowly back to his feet.
Freeman avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Drogo loads up on a big right hand but Freeman slips the punch.
Drogo tries to clinch up.

Drogo rushes Freeman and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Drogo misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Freeman.

Freeman wants the takedown. Drogo is fighting it off but Freeman persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Drogo's guard against the cage.
Freeman pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Drogo is keeping the position for now.
Freeman throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Drogo utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Drogo pushes Freeman off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
No joy there for Drogo, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Drogo defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Freeman.
Freeman gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Drogo.
Drogo misses with a hook. Freeman ducked under it nicely.
Drogo throws out a loose jab but Freeman uses good head movement to avoid it.
Drogo lands an overhand right.
A big right from Drogo misses.
Drogo connects with a nice looking jab.
Freeman has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Freeman there as he acknowledges the shot.

Freeman scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Freeman staying calm.
Freeman tries to advance to mount but Drogo denies him.
Drogo struggling a bit here.
Drogo takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Freeman trying to control the action but Drogo is working from the bottom.
Freeman in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Drogo taking a bit of punishment here - Freeman scoring with strikes.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Freeman tries to move into full mount but can't pass Drogo's legs.
Freeman trying to control the position but Drogo is working away.
Drogo prevents Freeman from improving position.
Freeman has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Freeman wants to control but Drogo is keeping him busy.

Freeman throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Drogo works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Freeman wants to take a breather but Drogo is having none of it.
Drogo slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Freeman looking to pass the guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Drogo wants to sweep but no luck.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Matt Freeman will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Drogo tried to score with a low kick but Freeman checks it.
Freeman slips under a jab.
Drogo misses with an uppercut. Freeman saw that one coming.
Drogo bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Freeman's head backwards.
Drogo tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Freeman paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Freeman shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Freeman wants to pass to mount but Drogo is defending the position.
Freeman controlling the pace.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Let's hope that Freeman has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Freeman wants to take a breather but Drogo is having none of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Matt Freeman was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Drogo doesn't manage to clinch there - Freeman circles away.

Freeman scores a takedown into full mount!
Drogo is in all sorts of trouble here.
Matt Freeman has got the better of the ground game so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Freeman is landing with some decent strikes but Drogo is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Freeman misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Freeman connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Freeman avoids the attempt from Drogo to control.

Drogo is squirming around, avoiding Freeman's attempts to control the action.

It looks like Nasir Drogo has been cut.
Freeman prevents Drogo from getting the reversal.
Drogo avoids a series of strikes thrown by Freeman.

Freeman looking for a guillotine from mount but Drogo is having none of it.
Drogo tries to hold on but Freeman postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Freeman with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Drogo can't escape the position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Freeman lands a nice shot to the head.
Drogo tries to hold on but Freeman pushes him away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Drogo in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Freeman can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Drogo is looking to escape.
Drogo sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Freeman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Jeez, Nasir Drogo's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Nasir Drogo's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Matt Freeman!
Our winner, Matt Freeman, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
