Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Michael Requina (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mitsuyo Maeda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Michael Requina!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mitsuyo Maeda!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Thiago Cunha and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Requina throws a nice outside leg kick.
Maeda tries to score a power double leg takedown but Requina sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Maeda somewhat.
Maeda throws a nice looking combination but Requina bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Maeda fails with a takedown attempt.

Maeda dives in and scores a takedown into Requina's guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Requina looking to hit a scissor sweep but Maeda is one step ahead there.
Maeda passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Maeda tries for a kimura but Requina is defending well.

Maeda is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Requina knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Maeda is trying to get an arm triangle but Requina is defending well.

Maeda tries to control but Requina wriggling away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Maeda is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Requina can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Requina is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Requina is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Requina regains half guard.

Maeda is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Requina is just riding it out for now. Maeda eventually gives up the hold.
Requina works his way to full guard. Good work.

Maeda prevents Requina from getting back to his feet.

Requina looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Requina wants to stand but Maeda is controlling the position.

Maeda is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Maeda won't allow Requina to get back to his feet.
Requina looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Requina manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Maeda tries to clinch up.
Maeda feints and then cracks Requina's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Requina down.
Requina avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Mitsuyo Maeda seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Maeda has Requina up against the cage in a clinch.

Requina misses with a body punch.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Maeda.
Requina stalling in the clinch but Maeda improves position.
Maeda jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Requina walks away with a smile on his face. Maeda gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Michael Requina has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mitsuyo Maeda.
Maeda shoots in looking for a takedown. Requina tries to sprawl out of it but Maeda keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Requina manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Requina misses with a leg kick
and Maeda counters with a low kick, right behind Requina 's knee.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Requina tries to bum rush Maeda with a series of wild strikes but Maeda uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Maeda fails in his attempt to clinch.
Maeda lands with a good body shot.
Maeda wants to clinch but Requina slips to the side
and Requina counters with a thumping low kick.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Maeda closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Requina's guard.
Requina keeping moving, preventing Maeda from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mitsuyo Maeda dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Requina stuffs the takedown attempt from Maeda. Maeda gets slowly back to his feet.
Maeda shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Requina as he jumps to the side.
Maeda steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Requina.
Requina works Maeda's body with a nice hook.
Maeda shoots in and drives through. Requina sprawls well.

Requina is not content to let Maeda control the position.
Requina tries to strike from the bottom but misses.

Maeda with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Requina is desperately trying to improve his position but Maeda has a good base and remains in mount.

Maeda has hold of Requina's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Requina manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Mitsuyo Maeda showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Mitsuyo Maeda is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Requina takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Maeda moves out of range of the body kick from Requina.
Requina tries a head kick but it misses.
No luck for Maeda with that takedown attempt.
Requina goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Requina throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Maeda dodges the punch combination from Requina.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Maeda has Requina pressed against the cage, preventing Requina from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Maeda blocks a punch to the side of the head.
A head punch on the inside from Requina fails to land.
Requina swings wildly with an uppercut but Maeda uses good head movement to avoid it.
A bit of stalling here from Requina.

Maeda jumps into guard, dragging Requina to the mat.
Maeda looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Maeda looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Requina trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Requina gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Requina throws a sloppy body shot

and Maeda counters with a single leg into guard. Requina didn't expect that.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Maeda slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Requina is looking to stand up but Maeda isn't so interested in that idea.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

I would just about give that final round to Mitsuyo Maeda.
I've got Maeda winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
